POSITION OVERVIEW

The accountant position is responsible for professional accounting, administrative and technical support relative to the planning, organization and coordination of assigned activities in the Finance Division; provides support to the controller and executive team and performs related work as required.This person will need to be able to proactively and independantly work in a fast-paced environment with a growing company. This role report to the Controller and is a member of the Corporate staff.

SCHEDULE

This is a full-time professional finance position.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Performs routine accounting duties such as but not necessarily limited to posting and maintaining ledger accounts; reconciling salary reports and bank statements; preparing deposit slips and maintaining cash records; computing unit cost information; taking trial balance of subsidiary ledgers and reconciling discrepancies; analyzing data for planning estimates. Prepares the less complex special reports as required. Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Prepares journal entries and reconciles general ledger and subsidiary accounts;

  • Prepares monthly financial statements, including distributing monthly revenue and expenditure reports to departments; prepares numerous monthly financial reports.

  • Analyzes and reconciles expenditure and revenue accounts, including bond accounts and reconciliation of bond statements to the general ledger, and reconciliation of bank statements to the general ledger.

  • Participates in operating an automated office and computerized financial and information system; identifies, develops and implements new automated applications as needed to facilitate effectiveness and efficiency.

  • Participates in and assumes responsibility for various departmental programs including financial statements, general ledger, monthly statements, payroll, and special districts accounting; conducts and prepares special studies and reports.

  • Reconciles postings from payroll, accounts payable, cash receipts, and accounts receivable to the general ledger; prepares journal entries.

  • Interprets, explains and applies general and governmental accounting/auditing principles and procedures, laws and regulations affecting the financial operations of municipal government.Assists in the coordination of the annual audits and assumes a lead role as needed.

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate for this role would share and understand the high growth objectives of Mass Markets. These duties include preparing and reviewing financial statements/reports; prepare and review expense vouchers, invoices, purchase requisitions or other transactions for one or more departments, in compliance with approved budgets and department procedures; may perform duties related to payroll, personnel actions or similar procedures; prepares budget reports, department allocation reports, inventory reports or other specialized reports or analysis on a regular or ad hoc basis.

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent work experience

  • 2+ years accounting experience in a business environment

  • QuickBooks experience is a plus; experience with various accounting software and financial analysis software systems.

  • Extensive knowledge of general and cost accounting based on GAAP; Excellent math skills.

  • Able to maintain confidentiality in general with company.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills and possess the ability to work harmoniously with people.

  • Be very detail oriented; Strong prioritization, coordination and self-directed and self-motivated. Strong sense of urgency and must be able to multi-task.

  • Able to work autonomously and in a fast environment.

  • Desire and ability to think creatively to implement new ideas and alternative ways to improve the company's bottom

  • Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position

  • Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to interact within all levels of the organization

  • Demonstrates ability to successfully plan, organize and manage projects

  • Detail-oriented, excellent proofreading and editing skills

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, organized, able to prioritize and work independently

  • Experience building successful working relationships with C-level executives

  • Prior knowledge and experience of QuickBooks and ADP

  • Exceptionally self-motivated and directed

  • Ability to successfully pass a background check and drug screening

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, general ledger accountability, financial reporting and analysis and other special projects as assigned. The position will work under the administrative direction of the finance team and report directly to the Controller. Located in Iowa City, IA 52240. Entry-level, Corporate/Executive Suite. SCHEDULE This is a full-time entry-level position, working closely with the executives of MCI brands. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES All Mass Markets' employees are expected to carry out their responsibilities with diligence, integrity, transparency of communications, and in a collaborative manner with coworkers, customers and vendors. Our entry-level Junior Accountants are responsible for the following tasks: * Day-to-day general ledger accounting and reconciliation, financial reporting and analysis for assigned functional areas. * Maintains and balances subsidiary ledger accounts by verifying, allocating, reconciling transactions; resolving discrepancies. * Perform monthly balance sheet, income statement and changes in financial position/budget variance analysis. * Prepare financial reports, charts, tables and other exhibits as requested * Partner with supervisor and site leadership in site budget preparation. * Work closely with site leadership. * Investigate and report to the manager any inconsistencies or improprieties. * Analyze data to ensure proper accounting procedures have been followed. * Provide timely, relevant and accurate reporting & analysis of the results of the sites' performance against historical, budgets, forecasts and strategic plans results to facilitate decision-making toward the achievement of the budget and strategic plan. * Financial and profitability analysis on a requested basis. * Review general ledger coding of AP transactions, expense reports, purchasing card recs, etc. related to sites. * Demonstrate appropriate understanding / working knowledge of accounting principles and internal controls, and apply them. This role is also responsible for performing special projects to improve process efficiency and performance Projects as assigned by Management and other special projects as requested.
