Responsibilities
As a member of the Finance & Accounting Team, you will have fiduciary responsibility for financial aspects of our end-to-end business, including all accounting and regulatory facets. This includes financial impacts throughout the product life cycle, from the warehouse to stores. Within the Retail Accounting department, you will collaborate with store Partners, as well as other key stakeholders, to support store and inventory operations.
As a Inventory Accountant II, you'll perform highly complex functions, identifying and analyzing root causes of shrink for all store departments and all domestic lines of business (HEB, Mi Tienda, Joe V's, and Central Market), and providing specialized analyses of the Retail Method of Accounting and Gross profits. Performs highly complex tasks, providing specialized analyses in various accounting functions (e.g., retail method accounting, shrink accrual analysis, inventory metrics etc.)
Discovers / drives new ways to use information to impact business decisions and results
Reviews financial data; maintains documented records supporting financial data used in actual and budget analysis
Provides complex analysis and recommendations on new / existing businesses to senior management
Performs complex analyses, and identifies / analyzes root causes using advanced problem-solving skills
May report on weekly actuals and forecasts profitability that involve trend analysis, economic research, and comparative analysis
Collaborates on ad hoc projects, strategic in focus, to assist in decision-making by leadership Accounting:
Develops / modifies major procedures for financial reporting and cost analysis in specialized areas
Responds to actual and budget questions; explains data to ensure management understanding
Independently resolves issues
May provide work leadership for lower-level Partners
May advise / present to leaders
Participates on cross-functional projects; collaborates with non-accounting Partners / teams
Participates in audits; interfaces with regulatory bodies to ensure understanding of financial data, methodology, and applicability under appropriate regulations
Documents / communicates changes to assigned accounting processes
Proactively stays abreast of best practices and regulatory changes
Develops / recommends complex accounting systems, methods, procedures, and controls -
What is your background? - Bachelor's degree in accounting, or a related field; Master's degree a plus
4+ years of experience in H-E-B accounting roles, or
6+ years of broad-based accounting functions

Proficient knowledge of GAAP and regulatory accounting practices
Advanced PC, MS Office, and software skills, including word processing, database management, spreadsheets, and graphics
