Responsibility Summary :

  • Performs a wide variety of record keeping and payroll processing activities, including computing wage and overtime payments, calculating and recording payroll deductions, processing requests for paycheck advances, and processing terminations.

  • Verifies and audits payroll records/changes

  • Research and resolve errors associated with payroll journal postings and assist with account reconciliation.

  • Assists service team with complex payroll related requests and questions as needed.

  • Assist, train and support payroll team members.

  • Document and monitor business processes and design recommendations for business process improvements.

  • Participate in system testing design and execution.

  • Recognize, document and communicate issues to direct leader

Position Requirements

Qualifications Required in the Job:

  • 3 5 years of Payroll experience

  • Intermediate excel skills required.

  • College Degree in Finance, Accounting or Business preferred

  • CPP or FPC preferred

  • Peoplesoft HCM and WorkForce Management experience preferred

  • Canadian Payroll experience highly desired

  • Comfortable working in a team environment and independently

  • Ability to analyze specific payroll situations, identify relevant issues, and apply appropriate solutions.

  • Collaborate with impacted areas and assist with the implementation of the agreed upon solutions.

VIEW JOBS 8/2/2019 12:00:00 AM 2019-10-31T00:00 SUMMARY Under general supervision, the Payroll Tax Accountant II monitors, manages, and reconciles multi-state payroll taxes at the employee and employer level. The Payroll Tax Accountant II is responsible for preparation, ensuring compliance, and timely filings of employment tax returns as well as reconciliation to the general ledger and 3rd party tax service provider reports and filings. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES * Review employee level taxation for new hires, transfers, and address changes * Reconcile payroll tax reporting after each pay run to ensure accurate filings by tax service provider * Monitor quarterly tax filings * Reconcile payroll taxes to the general ledger and prepare journal entries * Monitor and reconcile cash activity to payroll and 3rd party vendor reports * Reconcile payroll reports to forms 941, W-2, and 1099M * Research agency notices and prepare response, as applicable * Assist in preparing documentation for internal and external audits * Prepare returns and payments for agencies not prepared by 3rd party vendor * Apply for state and local identification numbers, as required * Assist with foreign company inquiries * Generate reports for Corporate Tax Department, as needed * Generate reports for Workers' Compensation vendor * Perform other special tax projects as assigned * Perform other related duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS * Bachelor's degree in Business/Accounting or related field; or equivalent work experience with Associate's degree required. * 2-4 years' experience with multi-state payroll tax filings and compliance required. * 2+ years' experience in the Financial Services industry preferred * CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) Preferred Stifel Nicolaus Saint Louis MO
