Job Description:
Accountant II, Student Financial Services
BARGAINING UNIT/NON-UNIT: AFSCME
ANTICIPATED START DATE: May 1, 2024, or as soon as possible thereafter
SALARY RANGE: Grade 16, Step 1: $2,075.77 biweekly ($53,970.02 annual)
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
Under the guidance of the Director of Student Financial Services, the Accountant II plays a pivotal role in delivering exceptional customer service to students and families navigating the financial aid process and making student payments. This position involves aiding students in completing the FAFSA process, communicating college policies effectively, and collaborating closely with the Associate Student Accounts Manager to oversee accounts payable and receivable.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Maintain an in-depth understanding of federal and state regulations, college billing practices, and relevant policies.
Provide guidance to students and parents on financial aid application procedures, eligibility criteria, and special circumstances, both on and off campus.
Conduct regular financial services procedures to ensure the smooth operation of various aid programs, scholarships, and billing processes.
Manage intercept records, payments, and debt collection processes.
Effectively communicate complex policies to students, families, staff, and the public.
Perform daily cash-ups, deposits, and reconciliations accurately.
Resolve student payment issues and facilitate referrals to appropriate offices or agencies.
Conduct monthly reconciliations for Pell Grants and Direct Loans, and oversee E-filing system reports and migrations.
Support the Associate Student Accounts Manager in journal entry preparation and reconciliation activities.
Provide backup for Direct Loan student requirements and counseling records.
Assist in managing financial aid Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) and monitoring student enrollment and progress.
Facilitate federal work-study payroll data entry and assist in annual federal audit record collection.
Assist in posting non-credit course charges and reconciling bookstore account charges.
Provide backup support for applying third-party payments to student accounts.
Assist with collections activity, including posting payments, late fees, and health insurance charges.
Occasionally work extended evening hours and Saturday Enrollment Days.
Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements:
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE*:
Applicants must have at least;
(A) two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional experience in accounting or auditing, or
(B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
