SUMMARY: The Accountant supports the Financial Services department in day-to-day operations by streamlining processes and providing timely, accurate financial information. The Accountant is responsible for generating reports, monthly reconciliations, creating journal entries, assembling supporting documentation, assisting with financial statement preparation and audit support, including drafting related disclosures.


  • Prepare monthly reconciliations.

  • Enter journal entries and supporting documentation into the accounting software.

  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing, including required reversing entries.

  • Ensure that recurring journal entries are changed or terminated as appropriate.

  • Manage Fixed Asset records.

  • Provide support for Accounts Payable.

  • Assist in preparing for routine audits.

  • Prepare work papers for annual audit.

  • Assist in drafting footnotes to the financial statements.

  • Assist with IRS Form 990.

  • Verify that transactions and records are in compliance with policies and procedures, as well as federal and state law.

  • Provide high-quality customer service to internal and external customers.

  • Ensure that best practices are observed to maintain fiscal and operational integrity.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.


  • High proficiency with Excel, including ability to generate reports and perform data analysis.

  • Understanding of accounting fundamentals and best practices.

  • Ability to prioritize deadlines, attend to details, and multi-task in a fast paced environment.

  • Formal education and/or coursework in accounting, finance, business or related field (Bachelors degree in accounting, finance, business or related field preferred).

  • Minimum one year of accounting experience, including general ledger and reporting experience required.

  • Experience with Abila MIP accounting software preferred.

  • Team player with ability to also work independently.

As General Ledger Accountant, you will join professionals providing services in areas including mental health/behavioral health, housing assistance, community employment and youth & family services. You will be part of an accounting team of four, reporting to the Controller. Status: Full Time Location: Salem Shift: Monday - Friday Starting wage: $18.62 - $20.13 (depending on experience) Reports to: Controller As the General Ledger Accountant, you will assist the Controller in maintaining the general ledger of the organization. Your duties will include: * Supports timely monthly and year-end financial close, including assigned journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and overall maintenance of assigned accounts. * Maintains organization's fixed asset and depreciation records. * Maintains organization's lease accounting schedules * Maintains organization's prepaid insurance * Performs bank reconciliations * Supports Accounts Receivable Accountant by assisting with follow-up with program managers regarding billing issues. Bills funders and reconciles accounts receivable general ledger accounts as requested by the Controller. Acts as back-up to Accounts Receivable Accountant. * Reviews Accounts Receivable aging for delinquency. Investigates aged items. * Maintains organization's bad debt allowance. * Performs financial/variance analysis as requested. * Works with Controller in maintaining mortgages for properties owned. * Supports Finance Director and Controller during annual budget process. * Assists Controller during annual audit preparation. * Performs special projects and duties as assigned by the Controller. Qualifications: Education: Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, or related field required. Experience: Two-three years experience in accounting required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: * Knowledge of basic accounting principles (i.e. journal entries, debits, credits, etc.), * Ability to accurately perform multiple tasks in a complex and fast-paced operating environment and meet deadlines through effective time management skills. * Analytical and problem-solving skills. * Strong verbal and written communication skills. * Must be proactive, flexible, responsible and resourceful. * Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality. * Must have excellent organizational skills. * Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
