This position assists the Controller in the management of accounting, budgeting and business functions of the university, including the day-to-day operations of the Accounting and Finance Office (AFO), working closely with departments and staff.


  • BA/BS in Business Administration, Finance or Accounting.

  • Minimum of 2-4 years experience in Accounting and Financial Systems.

  • Knowledge of Higher Education accounting principles and Fund Accounting software. Banner/Ellucian software knowledge extremely helpful.

  • Highly proficient and expert user of software applications including Microsoft applications, databases, spreadsheets and word processing required.

  • Understanding of GAAP financial statement reporting.

  • Ability to foster a cooperative and positive work environment.

  • Ability to communicate professionally with a diverse constituency.

  • Detail oriented, with the ability to multi-task projects.

  • Analytical skills and problem solving capacities.

  • Non-profit accounting experience preferred.

  • Preferred LCMS background.

General Duties:

  • Manages daily accounting operations, ensuring internal controls and policies in the finance office are followed to prevent inaccuracies in reporting.

  • Produces the monthly financial statements respecting deadlines established by management and ensuring statements comply with GAAP.

  • Provides guidance on difficult, unique or complex issues and helps resolve complaints or disputes.

  • Completes timely and accurate reconciliations on a routine basis for a) GL accounts, bank statements, source system interfaces; b) monitor and reconcile monthly activity of endowments through Fundriver; c) endowment reconciliation between Banner and Fundriver.

  • Coordinates work paper preparation for annual financial audit.

  • Manages the institution's annual budget process. Once budgets are in place, provides timely reports to budget owners and cabinet officers on a monthly basis.

  • Manages the Greater Giving online payment site for all events on campus.

  • Supports preparation of the 990 reports.

  • Stays current with compliance and tax reporting issues to support situations that require resolution or may be identified as potential issues.

  • Special projects as assigned by the Controller and Vice President/CFO/COO.

  • Other duties as assigned.

VIEW JOBS 11/21/2018 12:00:00 AM 2019-02-19T00:00 Reporting to the CI Manager, this position will deliver continuous improvement training and actions throughout the facility while serving as a Subject Matter Expert on Continuous Improvement. Incumbent will lead and grow a culture of Continuous Improvement and Change Management with all activities at this facility. Will facilitate continuous improvement projects focused on quality improvements, on-time delivering, inventory and cost reductions and process performance improvements. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: * Facilitates Continuous Improvement projects, cost reductions, and process performance improvements. * Maintain CI implementation schedules for assigned projects, progress updates as required, and most importantly, provide documentation that demonstrates the direct link between CI implementation and process and Plant Operations improvements. * Provide CI training and coaching at all levels of the Plant. * Participate in and lead teams aimed at the resolution of quality issues and concerns. * Support production control, material control, material planning departments in improvement projects relating to scheduling inventory management and raw material flow and tracking. * Support prototype and pilot runs to address design and process feasibility concerns from a departmental aspect. * Interface with plant engineering on projects addressing staffing, manpower, time and capacity analysis. * Generate, provide and participate in department specific training needs. * Calculate cost reductions and/or various analysis to determine optimal problem solving method. * Team with the Plant Controller to document savings and profit results of continuous improvement activities. * Accountable for tracking all CI Projects and reporting progress to plant staff. * Complete time studies to develop production standards for products. * Assist in monitoring department equipment (OEE) and interface with Maintenance department to identify maintenance, repair and TPM. * Works with process owner to develop value stream map for each process and each value stream family within the facility. * Utilizes the concepts of continuous improvement and cost reduction in the execution of the job function. Required Experience Required Qualifications: * Bachelor's Degree. * 2+ years of related experience in either Materials, Operations, Quality or similar role in a plant environment * Experience in identifying areas of improvement. * Strong understanding of financial analysis for business impact * Experience with data/statistical analysis (excel, access, graph/chart building, etc.) Preferred Qualifications: * Experience with process optimization, including but not limited to value stream mapping and layout design * Experience with Kaizen events and preferably leading said events * Knowledge of project leadership and execution, including training team members on improvements * Implementation experience in Lean, Six Sigma, Continuous Improvement or Process Improvement with demonstrated results * Working towards Black Belt or Master Black Belt certification * Green Belt certified * Thorough understanding of cycle time reduction, waste reduction, yield improvement, productivity and throughput improvement * Progressive automotive experience Tenneco Automotive Seward NE
