CFD Research Corporation, a small, employee owned firm based in Huntsville, is looking to add an Accountant to our team. This particular position will join a group that supports accounting & finance functions for the entire organization while contributing to project management applications through the development of reporting tools and reports for internal stakeholders to understand the financial positions of their projects.
The primary function of this role will be the preparation of accurate, timely financial statements in accordance with in our established schedule and with input from the rest of the accounting department. In support of this, candidate will work a variety of accounting tasks that include monthly and quarterly account reconciliations, analyzing and reconciling cash flow, profitability, customer invoicing, unbillable determinations, costs on hold, and subcontracts on a monthly basis. In addition to working the day to day functions, this position will be expected to analyze statements for discrepancies, coordinate semi-annual audits, prepare reports (both written and for presentation), and provide general guidance to staff that follows generally accepted accounting practices and maintains CFD Research's good standing with all government agencies.
In addition to traditional accounting duties, this position will have the opportunity to influence the organization's program control functions. The initial tasks will involve analyzing planned, budgeted and actuals financial data by project and roll-up to an enterprise report. In doing this, the candidate will be expected to help provide recommendations to improve forecast accuracy and ease of use by project and task leaders (typically technical staff). Ultimately the position will help the organization efficiently ensure adequate funding availability by maintaining accurate records of expenditures, preparing expenditure projections, and working with Contracts to submit timely requests for additional funding to the government. In addition to reporting, this position will help analyze financial data in support of project cost/schedule status and develop procedures while contributing to the completion of organizational projects and goals.
Ultimately, this position will be successful in delivering:
Developing accurate & timely financial statements for the organization
Continue to deliver (and improve upon) financial projections for the organization
Ensure compliance with all internal controls, company policies, disclosed practices, and FAR/DFAR requirements
Support the development and delivery of financial tools and reports for program and task leadership
Effective communication strategies, both written and verbal, often to technical, non-accounting staff
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting (Master's Degree is a plus)
Candidate must have at least 5 years of experience working in an accounting role for a government contractor
Familiarity and capabilities in Costpoint are required
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) with advanced knowledge of Excel
Strong problem solving and analytical skills
Strong financial, accounting, and project management skills with analytical and problem-solving experience (application focused)
Preferred candidate will have experience developing strong internal working relationships and producing effective communication products, both written and verbal, for all levels of an organization.
