We have an immediate opening for an Accountant / Senior Accountant Captive Services in Burlington, VT or Denver, CO. This position will manage the day-to-day accounting and financial activities of a portfolio of Captive Insurance companies acting as the focal contact person with senior management and our clients.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform all accounting necessary for maintaining captive clients, including preparing all general ledgers, reconciliations and customized financial and managerial reports.

  • Prepare monthly financial statement package and management review for a group of captive clients, in accordance with GAAP, SAP, IFRS and/or modified GAAP.

  • Give presentations at client, shareholder, and/or Board of Director meetings to review financial information.

  • Responsible for regulatory interfacing with each captive domicile onshore and offshore, consisting of Vermont, Hawaii, Cayman Islands, Arizona, Nevada, Colorado and District of Columbia.

  • Work with all service providers including but not limited to auditors, actuarial, tax authorities, regulators, investment professionals, and bankers; acting as a point person to organize and coordinate all matters to effectively manage captive clients.

  • Prepare regulatory filings, premium tax returns and NAIC Blank Forms.

  • Responsible for substantive audit review and compliance testing, involving drafting and reviewing of audit reports and obtaining clean audit opinions.

  • Provide advice on compliance requirements, investment regulations and current accounting developments that affect clients.

  • Monitor cash flow, prepare budgets and ad hoc reports.

  • Work with multiple accounting and reporting systems, including MAS 500, BizNet, and The Complete Package to prepare financial statements in accordance with GAAP, SAP and modified GAAP.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting/related field.

  • CPA designation preferred, but not required.

  • 3-10 years of experience in position with similar duties.

  • Ability to use initiative and good judgement in accomplishing tasks with minimal errors/Must possess critical thinking skills.

  • Establish and maintain effective work relationships to facilitate a team environment.

  • Excellent listening, interpersonal and customer services skills.

  • Proficiency in use of personal computers, including data entry, word processing and spread sheet applications. Proficient with Microsoft PowerPoint, Word and Excel.


  • Strong excel skills

  • Knowledge of AMS and ImageRight

SEC experience is not required. * Your background should have experience in financial institutions, insurance, or financial services external audit or financial institutions regulatory experience. * Your skills should include organization, communication, technical, time management, and accounting and auditing as you work effectively with clients and adequately handle multiple engagements and teams. * It is important that you interact with clients, prospects, all levels of staff, and colleagues in a professional fashion. * You will need to be able to multi-task since planning, executing, and wrapping up various engagements may have to be performed concurrently. * We require experience supervising engagement team members and instructing them on completing assigned task. * This position requires you to be a licensed CPA in the state of Connecticut or Vertmont or be able to be licensed in those states. * Ability to work additional hours as needed and travel to various client sites.
