About the Position

The Staff Accountant will perform professional level accounting activities to support the preparation, recording and reconciliation of accounting and business transactions. The incumbent will maintain or assist with the maintenance of the general ledger system and provide management reports as needed. The incumbent will assist in the proper financial reporting of CalOptima Health's operations and participates in the general accounting functions while collaborating with others in accounting and other departments.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participates in a mission-driven culture of high-quality performance, with a member focus on customer service, consistency, dignity and accountability.

  • Assists the team in carrying out department responsibilities and collaborates with others to support short- and long-term goals/priorities for the department.

  • Participates in month- and year-end closing in an accurate and timely manner.

  • Prepares financial schedules detailing monthly expenses.

  • Prepares and analyzes account reconciliations.

  • Assists in financial audits.

  • Prepares and processes provider refund-related transactions and activities.

  • Participates in the review and processing of employee expense reports.

  • Proposes accruals and adjustments as determined necessary.

  • Calculates and prepares appropriate journal entries to record business transactions.

  • Analyzes trends and budget variances.

  • Maintains departmental records and reports and collects data for administrative and regulatory purposes.

  • Completes other projects and duties as assigned.

Experience & Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance or relevant field required.

  • 3 years of experience in Accounting, Bookkeeping, Finance or related field required.

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the position such as those listed above is also qualifying.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Microsoft Access, Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains (GP) or an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software.

  • Experience with Facets.
