About the Role:
Aquila is seeking an Accountant to join our team in supporting one of the country's premier defense research organizations.
There are a few requirements for the position:
What You'll Do:
The individual will execute job responsibilities requiring an experienced professional with a strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices. This includes interpreting accounting data, assessing reports, and recommending action to be taken.
Responsibilities:
Participate in the monthly accounting and closing processes by generating various journal entries, preparing required reconciliations, and analytically reviewing specific general ledger accounts for accuracy and proper valuation.
Support various Audit activities (PwC, Internal Audit, DCAA) including assigning requests to other staff, preparing and or reviewing supporting documentation/schedules, tracking audit deliverables and issues, management reviews, and status
Support the research of accounting guidance, laboratory policy, and other guidance to model, document, and implement new accounting practices/activities
Interpret the lab's policy, Federal regulations, and other guidance to determine the allowability and allocability of costs to the facility's prime contract and present recommendations to management
Monitor and analyze accounting data and support the production of financial reports or statements for internal management, MIT campus, and external customers, as needed (includes Tax and Government reporting).
Support Accounting's process improvement initiatives, including improvements to internal documentation & procedures, process standardization, automation, quarter/year-end close, and internal control improvements
Support the implementation/upgrade of financial systems
What You'll Bring:
Bachelor's Degree
5 years of Accounting experience
5 years of Experience with financial analysis and processes
5 years of GAAP accounting experience
Detail-oriented
Excellent Problem Solving
Skilled multi-tasker
Strong Verbal and Written Communication
5 years of MS Suite (Excel, ppt)
5 years of SAP ERP Purchasing System experience
Working Knowledge of the Following:
B.S./B.B.A. degree in Accounting/Finance concentration, or related field required.
Minimum of five years experience in Accounting or a related discipline
GAAP accounting experience
Accounting experience in ERP software solutions
A solid understanding of financial and government processes with strong assessment skills
Ability to demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills is required
Strong attention to detail
Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines
Microsoft Office Products proficiency required
Strong Excel skills required
Experience with SAP is required
And These Skills are a Bonus:
Proficiency with computer-based financial management tools is desired
Experience with Department of Defense contracts or regulations (OMB, FAR, DFARs)
Experience with DCAA and external audits
Experience developing and implementing process improvements is desired

Work Schedule: Candidate should expect to be onsite 3 days/week (Forbes location) with some flexibility for more onsite as needed for projects/training (especially in the first couple of weeks). Must be within commutable distance of Lexington, Massachusetts.
