Requisition ID req30785 Working Title Accountant 3 Position Grade 13 Position Summary Office of Education is currently seeking an experienced and energetic professional interested in joining a diverse and complex department as an Accountant III. The ideal team member will be a highly motivated, detail-oriented, results-driven professional with leadership skills to coordinate financial goals and fiscal work with personnel across multiple departments and locations. This individual will be responsible for monitoring and reconciling the financial activities of all the departments within Office of Education; including financial updates of business, program, and shared labor activity for complex departments with multiple cost centers, fiscal activity, and reporting needs; and working with the Financial Analyst to project expenses/revenues, and development of yearly budgets for all departments.

Additional duties will also include:

  • Assisting the Financial Analyst with leadership and oversite of the work and personnel within the FSU (Fiscal Services Unit) team including goal development and implementation of fiscal services, staff development and training, internal fiscal policy development and implementation, and management of the FSU (Fiscal Services Unit) team and the fiscal service needs of the organization.
  • Fiscal operations over-site and compliance with UNM/HSC fiscal policy, SOM Department of Finance requirements, and internal fiscal policy.
  • Serves as a back-up for the Financial Analyst.
  • Performs advanced accounting functions in the form of journal entries, budget and salary planner development and entries, projection entries, cost center analysis and reporting, and other financial management/reporting required by UNM, HSC, and SOM Department of Finance, and the Office of Education.
  • Reviews and maintains departmental logs of financial activity to ensure compliance of UNM policies for payroll processing, purchases, and other financial activity.
  • Approves PCard activity ensuring special exceptions, purchase requisitions, vendor payments, and journal entries submitted by other fiscal personnel within the organization.

Conditions of Employment Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and successful completion of at least 15 credit hours of university-level accounting through intermediate accounting; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications • Setting priorities and meeting critical deadlines coordinating with other personnel and departments.

  • Experience leading a financial team including fiscal policy oversite, and growth and development of financial staff.
  • Maintaining financial records and preparing clear and accurate reports for informational, auditing and operational use.
  • Extensive knowledge and application of professional accounting principles, concepts, and techniques within a University environment.
  • Advanced critical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Intermediate level (or higher) experience utilizing Excel formulas and functions for management and reporting of financial data.
  • Experience working with UNM accounting, budgeting, and purchasing systems including Chrome River (PCard), Loboweb Purchasing, Banner Finance, Salary and Budget Planner, Projections, and Categorization of Reserves.
