This position is only available to active DMV Employees OR State employees that have been laid off and possess an active Yellow Form or Blue preferential hiring card. The incumbent will be responsible for the Agency's general Petty Cash Fund and ensures that bank deposits are being made daily by all Customers Service Centers and advises personnel on mandated accounting procedures regarding deposit and handling of agency funds. The incumbent will also be responsible for cash management of agency funds, for system report distribution, JCL review of reports to ensure all jobs processed properly daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, semi -annually and annually in job submission.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of accounting principles/procedures, experience with automated accounting systems.
  • Ability to perform detailed work with numerical and statistical data.

  • Working knowledge of personal computer programs and ability to maintain complex fiscal data using spreadsheets, manual and automated ledgers.

  • Ability to balance and reconcile accounts and cash drawer and make mathematical calculations including percentages.

  • Experience in reviewing and understanding JCL output and mainframe job request submissions.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effective orally and in writing, to understand, interpret, explain and apply complex written material such as law, rules, policies and procedures and to readily adapt to statue and legislative changes.

  • Analyze records, files and other documents.

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related fields; or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

  • Expert knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices.

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze, interpret and apply financial regulation, policies, methods and procedures.

  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, manage multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment.

  • Proficient in MS-Excel to include experience using pivot tables and v-look ups.

  • Experience working with automated systems and complex charts of accounts.

  • Ability to analyze complex financial data, and present meaningful, useful financial statements and reports to management.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in management of complex accounting systems at the state and/or federal level.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise staff in the absence of the Manager.

  • Knowledge of human resources principles and practices.
