Account Specialist

Position Title: Account Specialist
Department/Section: Finance & Business Services
Supervisor: Director, Finance & Business Services
Hourly Rate: $24.25 - $25.00/hour (depending on experience)
Pay Grade: 101
Schedule: 40 hours/week; 12 month position; Benefit Eligible (Medical, Vision, Dental, Life Insurance); Arizona State Retirement System eligible
Summary of Function
This is a shared position between accounting and payroll both of which are housed in Business Services. Assists with maintaining accuracy and compliance of District financial activity by performing varied and complex technical accounting duties and performs payroll functions for District employees, processes payroll documents and timesheets and assures the accuracy and timeliness of all payroll activities.
Qualifications
Three to five years experience providing specialized support related to area of assignment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
Knowledge and high level of accuracy in the use of Microsoft Office, Word, and Excel. Experience with Visions financial system, and general ledger a plus, but not required.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisors, administrators, the general public, etc.
Duties and responsibilities
Process accounting, financial and payroll documents and transactions in compliance with Arizona Revised Statutes rules and regulations, Uniform System of Financial Records and District policies.
Maintains accounting, financial and payroll records and associated filing systems; enters data into computer system; verifies coding, processes transactions, updates accounts, compiles documentation and generates reports.
Processes purchase requisitions and other documents following guidelines established by Arizona Revised Statutes rules and regulations, Uniform System of Financial Records and District policies.
Assists with preparing journal entries to general ledger following established instructions and procedures
Makes changes and maintains budgets, spreadsheets or other documents as required, including assigning or approving budget codes to ensure coding accuracy and fund availability.
Assists in providing training and assistance to other departments in all aspects of accounting, finance and payroll.
Prepares and tracks payroll and special project timecards for grant-funded projects, including preparation, distribution, tracking and maintenance of time and effort documentation where required.
Prepares financial information for the District Medicaid program
Administers the student count and financial portion of the District Impact Aid Report.
Reconciles miscellaneous accounts to the general ledger
Void Accounts Payable checks
Assist with annual audit
Attends district meetings as needed
Maintains confidentiality of all work-related matters, personnel records and information.
Performs other duties as assigned

Indoor office environment.
Physical requirements
Work involves the performance of duties where physical exertion and movement is required to perform the aspects of the job. Assistance is available as required to perform physically demanding tasks. Work involves sitting and moving for extended periods of time, requires moving from one location to another, reaching, bending, holding and grasping objects. Verbal communication ability required.
Equipment, Aids, Tools and Materials
Uses office equipment which includes but is not limited to: computers, video projectors, white boards, and office or instructional equipment. FUSD recognizes that ever changing development of technology but expects all staff to keep abreast of changing technology opportunities and use tools and devices provided to them.
