Description/Job Summary

The Field Sales Engineer will work independently from their home office therefore; core to this position is a high level of business and personal integrity along with proven sales and territory management. Incumbent must also have the ability to conform and integrate company policy into their sales activity as well as meet company assigned sales goals.


  • Grow assigned territory by developing existing business for Buehler equipment and consumables through on-site visits with existing QC customers and leads provided by CRM, Inside Sales, Marketing and Management. Focus should be in key high-volume, quality critical industries including: automotive, aerospace, heat treat, electronics, etc. in the quality control sector. Sales Engineers are to meet or exceed assigned territory sales goal.

  • Grow existing consumable business with chosen high volume, quality control accounts through affective Account Management and teaming up with Business Development Specialist for target organic growth.

  • Maintain daily face to face contact with QC customers within assigned territory with a target and goal of a high quality face to face 5 meetings per week with decision makers

  • Provides forecast data to sales management

  • Attend weekly meeting with Manager either via telephone or in person and keep manager informed of territory issues, order issues and other business challenges related to sales. Manage territory and document calls using company CRM supplied software.

  • Manages sales pipeline, track customer contacts, and account details using the company's Customer Relationship Management system.

  • Identify and build relationships with key decision makers through friendly, engaging communication.

  • Identifies and analyzes customer needs and develops commercial arguments

  • Builds customer relationships and shares knowledge of products, their characteristics and the market.

  • Plans daily activity including customer calls, creating a time efficient plan using the company's Customer Relationship Management system.

  • Organizes own work routine with guidance as provided by sales leadership.

  • Provide or coordinate with Buehler Service the installation and maintenance of equipment. Sales Engineers are required to set up, install and be knowledgeable enough to instruct customer on basic operations and functions on most Buehler equipment.

  • Maintain and control company assets assigned (i.e. company vehicle, demo equipment, laptop/computer, company cell phone, etc.).

Required Experience

  • Bachelor degree preferable in an Engineering or Science discipline (Material Science a plus).

  • Minimum of 3 years of outside sales experience selling technical equipment in a laboratory or production setting; able to manage a multistate territory and sale technical products preferably to laboratory or testing environments with a sales budget of greater than 1MM.

  • Knowledge of metallurgical sample preparation equipment, consumables, and applications preferred. Also, experience with various selling techniques, customer service skills as well as knowledge of the function, operation and features of Buehler manufactured equipment.

  • Must be computer literate and be able to use Microsoft Office Suite such as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and e-mail communication and be comfortable with remote access for updating purposes.

  • Must have a clean driving record and outstanding credit.

  • Job does require some lifting.

  • Willing to travel overnight up to 70%.

Responsibilities/Duties * Demonstrates an understanding of and provides overall HR administration and support of HR programs in the areas of recruiting, compensation, benefits, employee relations, training and health & safety. Recruiting * Manage the recruitment, selection and onboarding of all assigned positions. * Manager intern selection and placement. * Manage temporary workforce population. * Responsible for employee onboarding including new hire orientation, completing appropriate employment forms; creating a positive first experience of the company and serves as a role model for ITW values. * Maintains employee information and electronic personnel files, position descriptions, and employee bulletin boards. Performance Management * Coordinates, develops, and facilitates leadership training on HR related topics; ITW required programs and documenting training efforts. Gathers feedback and provides recommendations as needed to improve programs. * Supports the talent management processes (ITW HR toolboxes) and succession plans. Coaches and mentors individuals through the career development plan process that promotes employee development and engagement.
