TREASURER/COLLECTOR

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Collects all taxes and water/sewer payments at teller window, including property, personal and excise taxes, and police and fire charges
• Balances cash drawer daily; prepares bank deposit
• Contact with the public specifically in person, but also by phone and in writing when necessary, explaining tax collection policies and procedures as they relate to real estate, personal property, excuse taxes and water/sewer bills
• Process payments received via mail when not accepting payments at the window
• Assisting others in the department when needed or as directed
• Performs other related duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS AND ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS

• Must be a high school graduate
• Should have a general knowledge of MGL, Chapter 41, 44, 58, 59, 60A and 80
• Knowledge of finance and computers skills required
• Background in finance preferred
• Must have ability to work with the public in a service-oriented environment, exercising good verbal communication skills
• Must have the ability to operate routine office equipment such as calculators, typewriters, computer terminals, printers, etc.
• Previous experience handling cash preferred
• Should have a general understanding of collection principles and practices as acquired by one to two years experience in the collection department
