Essential Duties
1.Serves as a principal source of information on rules and procedures governing University accounts receivable. Oversees and instructs support staff. 2. Oversees maintenance of account files, ensuring accuracy and completeness. Reviews payment histories. 3. Resolves problem and delinquent accounts with supervisor and collection agency. Assists with final review and disposition of problem accounts. 4. Recommends and implements changes to systems and operating procedures. Composes form letters and correspondence used in accounts receivable activities. 5. Researches individual accounts. Summarizes findings in reports. Completes and processes forms. Performs clerical functions incidental to account activity.

Required Education and Experience

Four years of related work experience, two of them in the same job family at the next lower level, and high school level education; or two years of related work experience and an Associate's degree, or an equivalent combination of experience and education.

Position Focus:

Under the direction and supervision of the Manager, YMG Coding and Billing, the Coding/Charge Review position provides work queue resolution of medical billing charges by analyzing clinical documentation to code and/or validate diagnostic (ICD-9/ICD-10) and procedural (CPT/HCPCS) codes for Yale Medical Group. Ensures compliance with established coding guidelines, third party reimbursement policies, regulations and accreditation guidelines. Maintains effective workflow processes to assure complete, accurate and timely billing activity and optimal reimbursements.


Preferred Education, Experience and

Skills:

Typically requires certification as an AAPC Professional Coder (CPC). EPIC experience strongly preferred.

VIEW JOBS 11/12/2018 12:00:00 AM 2019-02-10T00:00 Essential Duties 1.Utilizing EPIC work queues and online carrier tools and/or third party tools, the Financial Counselor will determine if the patient is self-pay or has a high deductible plan. 2.Review patient's medical chart to determine services being rendered. 3.Communicate with insurance carriers and research patient benefits. 4.Based on information gathered from carrier, create an estimate of patient responsibility for services to be rendered. 5.Make contact with patient prior to a specific service being rendered to discuss and explain the financial estimate of services and collect payment. 6.Record estimate information in EPIC on patient's accounts. 7.Work with patient to resolve any existing outstanding balance on patient's account. 8.Post payments collected. 9.Must have thorough knowledge and understanding and be able to monitor and reconcile any credit balance left on a patient's account. 10.Communicate with physician offices and YNHH as needed, utilizing professional discretion to determine appropriate communication with physician's office. 11.Answer incoming patient estimate calls and prepare estimates as required. 12.Assist departments with questions and issues relating to the authorizations/referrals. 13.Ability to work independently and meet specific timelines. 14.Perform clerical functions incidental to account activity 15.Other related duties as assigned.
