Position Overview

Join our newly created Retailer Strategic Solutions (RSS) team and help NPD expand our impact across Walmart Inc. The RSS mission is to reach more Walmart and Sam's Club departments and decision-makers with strategic industry-leading insights and analytics. Our focus spans all General Merchandise (GM), connecting NPD's extensive category data in creative ways that provide Total GM Shopper and Market insights.

The RSS Analyst directly supports the RSS Executive Director, helping prepare omni-channel projects for Walmart and Sam's Club. They'll analyze and combine NPD data including POS, Consumer Panel, and our Checkout Receipt Omni-panel. Potential projects may include work on assortment optimization, ways to increase customer loyalty, and developing new reports and products. Most deliverables will be in Powerpoint, Excel or Word, combining a range of data types. Will be expected to lead selected projects and help present results to Walmart. Clients for this work will typically be at the Sr. Director or Officer level (VP+).

This position is located in NPD's Bentonville, AR office (across from the Walmart home office) and may have some limited travel (less than 5%, mainly to NYC).

RSS Analyst Qualifications:

  • 4+ years experience in data analysis, market research, or similar (i.e., using data to find insights & answers)

  • Strong data mining skills

  • Fluent in MS Office products. (Strong Excel, PowerPoint, Word).

  • Strong portfolio management skills (keep multiple projects moving and on-track)

  • Good written and oral communication skills (with willingness to improve both)

  • Prior experience analyzing POS syndicated data (GM and/or Food Consumables) and creating reports

  • Demonstrated ability to influence clients with analytics/insights (above-buyer level preferred)

  • Demonstrated critical thinker and problem solver (esp. using range of inputs/data types)

  • Solid attention to detail

  • BA/BS or equivalent.

Other Preferred Skills:
(improves likelihood of role fit)

  • Experience in shopper understanding/product development research

  • Experience with longitudinal data (cross-shopping/share of wallet)

  • Experience working on a client-facing team supporting Merchandising, Marketing, or Merch Operations

  • MBA or strong internship experience or related certification/licensing

  • Experience working with/for Walmart or Sam's Club General Merchandise business (any department)
