To assist the Sr. Accomodations Advisor to oversee and manage the requests for U.S. employee medical accommodations in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA); to review medical information and facilitate the interactive process of evaluating and resolving requests for job modification/accommodation in order to support return-to-work efforts in a timely manner; identify needs, develop long-range plans and initiatives, provide advice, and recommend appropriate accommodation practices.
Provides specialized consultation and subject matter expertise in evaluating requests for accommodations in compliance with state and federal law
Subject matter expert on the application and interpretation of the Americans with Disability Act (ADA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Acts, and Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA)
Point of contact for escalated issues and complicated leave and ADA scenarios, such as requests for (i) leave extensions; (ii) work accommodations based on a medical restriction/disability following an approved leave of absence; and/or (iii) any permanent/temporary work accommodations based on a medical condition/disability.
Works with supervising managers and HR team members to educate and evaluate request for job modifications/accommodations and to facilitate the interactive process between the employee and manager and/or field human resources to identify appropriate work accommodation options and monitor the implementation of same
Verify eligibility for and reasonableness of potential accommodations by reviewing medical documentation from the employee's healthcare providers; in limited circumstances may need to communicate directly with healthcare providers
Draft and send applicable communications to employees addressing and resolving failure to return from leave, accommodation requests, etc.
Presents ADA training and return to work/job accommodation procedures to HR team members and managers
Consults with the Associate General Counsel, Employment Law on complex ADA cases
Update and maintain all Accommodation template documents and policies/procedures in accordance with legal guidance
Previous experience (at least 4 years) in a leave of absence case management and ADA accommodation support role
Excellent knowledge of the application and interpretation of the Americans with Disability Act (ADA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Acts, and Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), with working knowledge of Workers Compensation
Completion of continuing education on evolving legal obligations under ADA and FMLA
Strong written communication skills and the ability to document effectively
Critical thinking, problem solving, and judgment skills, including the ability to recognize legal risk associated with certain disability issues
Is proficient in process analysis and optimization experience.
Demonstrated ability to deal with confidential information.
Service-oriented attitude and willingness to learn
Posses good listening skills and patience to work with all employees
Ability to maintain a positive attitude
Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities
May require occasional travel
Non-Negotiable Hiring Criteria:
BA/BS attributable to human resources or general business
Excellent interpersonal skills needed with the ability to communicate well in a diverse work environment
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint, experience using a HRIS data base and reporting application
