Qualifications:
High School diploma
Heavy concentration skills:

1.Knowledge of iOS, Windows, Adobe products, Google, Photoshop, Microsoft Office suite
2.Attention to detail
3.Excellent keyboarding skills
4.Ability to navigate online curriculum platforms, file sharing, data storage systems Light concentration skills:
5.Ability to learn and demonstrate understanding of braille, and braille application software

Reports to:
Assigned supervisor within the Special Education Department

Job Goal:
Assist and effectively communicate with the teachers of students with visual impairments (TVI) and orientation and mobility specialist (O&M) in the provision of enlarged, brailled, recorded, and other adapted materials. Maintain, organize and keep inventory of the office, the equipment and the supplies.

Performance Responsibilities:
1.Use computer software proficiently to proofread, review, and edit to ensure accuracy of adapted materials.
2.Remain current in computer technology and braille software.
3.Consistently meet content curriculum timelines as requested by TVI and OM.
4.Produce adapted materials including books, workbooks, testing material, and classroom work utilizing a variety of formats
including large print, braille, tactile graphics, recorded texts, and electronics.
5.Provide braille output using print-to-braille translation software in combination with a braille embosser, and occasional use of a
braillewriter.
6.Ability to learn and demonstrate basic understanding of Unified English Braille.
7.Transcribe student braille materials.
8.Maintain a properly labeled electronic file on all materials, which should be retained for future use.
9.Ability to operate and maintain specialized office equipment including a printer, scanner, braille embosser, comb binding machine,
and a paper cutter.
10. Ability to self-initiate, work independently, and proceed forward autonomously with adapting the next logically sequenced textbook
materials.

  • Job responsibilities may be fluid from year to year given changes in technology, school learning platforms and apps, school data storage systems, etc.

Evaluation:
1.Quarterly review of work quality and performance by assigned supervisor with support from Vision Program staff to review low vision and braille adaptations, and modifications for students with visual impairments
