SUNY Niagara is seeking candidates who are passionate about making education accessible to all individuals and making a difference in these students' lives. We are searching for an Accessibility Services Technical Assistant in our Student Success Center. This position is a para-professional, tenure track position reporting to the Director of Student Success Center.

This position assists the Program Administrator with the daily operation of Accessibility Services in support of students in credit-bearing and non-credit certificate and degree programs and is responsible for the training on adaptive technology, scheduling and provision of accommodated testing, and data sorting and management of disability information in Banner. This position also assists with case management for students with disabilities, including registration, connection with academic support, and transition support.

This individual implements adaptive technology as related to accessibility and conducts campus-wide training as needed. Weekend and evening hours may be required.

Typical Work Activities

  • Assist with implementation, training and troubleshooting of various software and hardware as it relates to Accessibility Services.

  • Recommend and implement innovative, creative, and improved adaptive technology to support enhanced accessibility for students.

  • Oversee acquisition or conversion of adaptive format textbooks and other classroom materials for Accessibility Services students.

  • Support registration and retention of Accessibility Services students.

  • Support efforts to increase completion rates of Accessibility Services students by identifying disability-specific supports and performing outreach to these students.

  • Coordinate, organize and process Testing Reservation forms and other Accessibility Services digital forms.

  • Coordinate with students and faculty in the scheduling and delivery of accommodated tests.

  • Assist with supervision of student notetakers as needed.

  • Assist with the gathering of data and reports as needed.

  • Contribute to the support of advisement and registration efforts provided through the Student Success Center.

  • Coordination of CLEP proctoring, advertisement and web updates.

  • Act as liaison and support for Workforce Development for Accessibility Services

  • Serves on committees as needed.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions

Ability to operate computers and other computerized office equipment; ability to convey technical knowledge to non-technical personnel; ability to relate with a diverse population of students, faculty and staff; ability to coordinate numerous priorities with critical deadlines; ability to learn, train, and utilize a variety of accessible software and hardware devices.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Social Work, Psychology or related degree and the equivalent of one semester supporting students in an educational setting; experience providing customer service; experience working with a diverse population.

Desirable Qualifications

Master's degree in Higher Education Administration; Special Education, Social Work, Psychology or other related field; experience working in higher education; experience working with students with disabilities and adaptive technology.
