Position Summary:
The Office of Career and Student Success Services (CSSS) provides services and resources that empower all Columbia College students to explore and identify their academic and professional passions while acquiring the skills, experiences, and connections needed to thrive academically and graduate prepared for their post-graduation goals.
The primary role of the Assistant Director of Career and Student Success Services is to manage Accessibility Services & Accommodations. As the manager of Accessibility Services & Accommodations, the Assistant Director of Career and Student Success Services works directly with Columbia College students to provide services and document accommodations to meet the various needs of students with disabilities at the college, ensuring equal opportunity for all students to participate in all programs. This position plays an important role in the institution's retention efforts, and focuses on creating an academically, socially, and physically accessible environment for all students by removing barriers to learning.
The Assistant Director of Career and Student Success Services also maintains a small Career and Student Success coaching caseload with students in the Division of Arts & Humanities. Reporting to the Executive Director of Career and Student Success Services, this position works closely with the Executive Director and the Career and Student Success Coaches to ensure all students are provided with academic and professional development resources that foster successful behaviors and habits, while also increasing access to resources at Columbia College and in the community.

The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to:
Serving as the campus' ADA Coordinator. In compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, Columbia College recognizes a student with a disability as anyone who has a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activity.
This position manages the accommodation process, and is responsible for reviewing and interpreting documentation that substantiates disabilities, conducting intake interviews, and determining eligibility for services and appropriate accommodations for students with faculty for classroom modifications
The Accessibility Services & Accommodations Manager facilitates the provision of services that may include, but are not limited to:
Academic accommodations
Accessible housing
Interpreter and reader services
Specialized testing accommodations
Faculty consultations
Orientation to campus
Use of assistive devices
Resource information & referrals
Goals for this position include, but are not limited to:
Creating equal opportunities for students with disabilities to learn and participate
Providing training and educational opportunities for the Columbia College community on disability issues, ensuring the community is knowledgeable and following best practices on issues of accessibility
Advocating for students and others in the learning community
Serving as a campus resource, and subject matter expert, on accessibility services and accommodations for students, faculty, and staff
Encouraging all students with disabilities to self-advocate, participate in leadership opportunities and develop the total self
Increasing the visibility and awareness of disability services and enhancing the quality, effectiveness, and efficiency of accessibility services and accommodations on campus
Coordinating resources to ensure academic access and retention of students with disabilities
Serving as a liaison with faculty and various campus offices in providing community resources for students
Oversee the testing center as managed by the Data and Testing Center Coordinator
Documenting, evaluating, & implementing accommodations for short-term illnesses and injuries
Managing the hardship accommodations process, including but not limited to the review and response to hardship notifications and sending of hardship notifications letters
Managing a small Career and Student Success Coaching caseload for students in the Division of Arts & Humanities.
Staff academic advising for new day students, which may include general academic planning, course registration, course withdrawal, change of major/minor, issues in general education courses, and leave of absence/withdrawal.
Career and student success coaching for new and continuing students, providing career services assistance to students, which includes major and career exploration, internship & job searches, developing resumes & application materials, and interview preparation.
Career and student success coaching caseload for new and continuing students, providing student success services assistance to students, which includes academic probation recovery, academic success strategies, career and academic success planning, early alert recovery, individual academic consultation
Advancing the work of the Career and Student Success Services office
Work closely with the Executive Director to assist in planning, organizing, and executing organizational initiatives.
Collaborate with other team members to address emerging issues and ensure strategic objectives are met.
Oversee and manage key projects as assigned by the Executive Director
Assume duties of the Executive Director when required in their absence.
Management retains the discretion to add or change the duties of the position at any time.
Requirements:
Master's degree in disability services, special education, social work, human services, or counseling preferred; degree in a closely related field with relevant work experience required
At least one year of related professional experience working with students with disabilities; 3-5 years of experience working with students with disabilities in a higher education setting preferred
Deep knowledge of and experience with ADA compliance and knowledge of disability laws, including knowledge of the Rehabilitation Act (1973), the Americans with Disabilities Act (1990), and the ADA Amendments Act (2008), and associated case law as they relate to higher education
Ability to communicate and work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, and community
Resourceful in researching and implementing best practices in disability services, including new approaches or technologies that may be applicable to supporting our students
Strong written and oral communication skills
Strong attention to detail and follow through
Proficiency in Microsoft Office. Experience with EAB Navigate a plus
Experience working with learners of all ages and backgrounds
Experience as a manager with programmatic oversight of accessibility services and accommodations preferred
Must be able to work some evening hours and occasional weekends
This position is classified as non-exempt and requires the ability to work some evening and weekend hours.
