Shoreline CC Library

The Shoreline Community College library is a welcoming place with services and resources that support students, faculty, and staff across multiple modes of access including in-person and virtual access. These include reference services, instructional support, information literacy instruction, providing access to physical and virtual collections to support student information needs, programming to support student and information needs, collaborating across the college to support students, and providing a safe and accessible space for students to study.

The Library & Archives Paraprofessional 3 (LAPP3) position oversees the Library Access Services under the general direction of the Executive Director to ensure access to the library building and availability of resources in print and electronic form for the College. This position maintains a welcoming and inclusive space for students and community to access the library or gather. The LAPP3 will be the primary lead on evening, weekends, and breaks or when librarians or other leadership are not available. This position is also the fulfillment lead for the Integrated Library System (ILS) ALMA with the incumbent regularly collaborating with the Technical Services lead and librarians.

Primary responsibilities include the following:

  • Responsible for ensuring scheduling and staffing of service points; including supervision of full and part time staff.

  • Designs training documents and resources for the service and technical access service areas

  • Provides input into the development and implementation of area policies

  • Provides back up for other access services staff when needed.

  • Manages access services functions in the Integrated Library System (ILS, ALMA) including:

  • Manages batch patron record imports

  • Assists in archival records transfer, accessioning, and storage

  • Processes incoming material by performing arrangement and description projects

  • Analyze and resolve order problems and maintain and update internal records using complex automated systems

  • Uses ILS analytics and other systems to collect and maintain statistics for local, regional, and national reporting

  • Generates reports and lists from ILS

  • Oversees opening, closing and monitoring of library spaces for evenings, weekends, or as needed

  • Performs circulation functions including resolution of issues and recommending fine waivers;

  • Assist or instruct patrons or other staff with use of library systems

  • Collaborates with financial services and cashiers on library material replacement fees and processes.

  • Maintains and organizes physical library collections.

  • Directs shelving and shelf reading.

  • Inspects items and takes steps to repair or replace as needed.

Plans, recommends and implements changes in the organization of the physical space.Required Education & Experience:

  • High school graduation or equivalent, AND

  • Three (3) years' experience in the functional operations of a library or archives, OR Equivalent Education/Experience

  • ExLibris ALMA Fulfillment certification OR ability to obtain with 6 months of hire.

Knowledge Of:

  • Microsoft Office applications such as SharePoint, Excel, Outlook, and Word programs

  • Integrated library systems, usability standards, and principle/ethics.

  • Basic Copyright law.

Skill In:

  • Fostering a climate of equity and belonging through multicultural awareness and responsiveness.

  • Effectively supervising, training, evaluating, and directing employees (including full and part-time positions).

  • Time management, organization, and ability to meet competing deadlines/priorities.

  • Entering and/or retrieving data accurately in computerized record keeping systems.

  • Handling difficult and sensitive situations, using sound independent judgment within legal guidelines

  • Writing/editing/proofreading clear and concise materials resulting in effective oral and written communication with individuals inside and/or outside of the College.

  • Establishing/maintaining effective working relationships at all organizational levels.

  • Ability to work with a diverse group of students, staff, and the public in a friendly, courteous and helpful manner

  • Providing effective user support through problem solving/troubleshooting with accuracy.

Physical Work Environment:

The College is currently providing services in a mixed modality of operations (both online and in-person services are offered). This position will perform work in a standard office setting, use standard office equipment and physically attend meetings both on and off campus. Please note, there may be limited opportunities for online work depending on program or area needs. If authorized for online work, employees will need to provide their own workspace and internet access, noting the College will provide technical equipment and support for online work needs.

Terms Of Employment/Salary:

This position is allocated to pay range 39 ($41,504-$55,251 annually) under the Washington State Office of Financial Management higher education salary schedule. Salary placement for new employees is determined by the College. This position works 40 hours per week, with a schedule dependent upon department needs. Hiring of this position is contingent on available funding as determined by the College President.
