Purpose and Scope:
Performs all-encompassing Access Control Officer (ACO) duties, which involves greeting/monitoring all employee, customer and visitor traffic and effectively recognizing and reacting to diverse situations, including physical and mental duress.
Essential Responsibilities:
Verifies current access authorization of all personnel (company/customer) entering all areas of facilities.
Monitors activities of individuals entering controlled areas of company facilities.
Maintains a chronological log of all activities and/or incidents, which occur during the assigned shift.
Makes physical checks of all internal swiped areas and external doors during end of day closure procedures.
Monitors card access computer system, multi-zoned alarm system, emergency fire alarm panel and closed circuit security monitors.
Conducts security inspections of personnel entering and exiting company facilities.
Handles the receiving/transferring of telephone calls within the assigned facility.
Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
Minimum of two (2) years professional security experience, gained through any one or a combination of the following: military police, civilian police, commercial armed access control/facilities protection.
Possess experience and ability to; deal professionally with situations which may involve mental and physical duress; effectively analyze and react to diverse situations; comprehend both written and verbal instruction and take appropriate actions.
Possess effective reading, writing, arithmetic and communications skills, including oral and written communication skills.
Must qualify for and maintain a government Top Secret security clearance. Possess a valid state issued driver's license.
Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:
The position requires periodic walking, running, bending, stooping, climbing and lifting up to 50 pounds. If approached by a physical threat, the individual must be able to utilize appropriate self-defense and/or apprehension techniques to ensure the safety of self, others and property.
