Job Description:

Business Analytics & Insights (BAI) delivers data-driven insights that enable our clients to make improved decisions. Our dynamic and expanding team is comprised of subject-matter experts from diverse backgrounds and experiences, including market research, data analytics, and consulting. As a team, we leverage our passion for analytics and our ability to turn data into meaningful insights to guide business strategy across UCB. The Associate Director for Access Analytics is a key business partner who will provide analytics to support our partners in Market Access and Neurology/Immunology commercial organization. He/she is responsible for development of rigorous analytics-based market insights and business intelligence to inform optimal strategic brand and portfolio decision-making, ensure successful marketing execution, and measure performance.

The Business Analytics and Insights Associate Director is responsible for the management, generation, interpretation and communication of analytics related to informing the role and impact of market access stakeholders including payers, providers, GPOs, specialty pharmacies to guide leaders on driving revenue through promotional efforts. Ability to work closely with senior management and clients, providing business insights, challenging their thinking, and managing their expectations. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple clients in a fast-paced environment. Excellent communication and presentation skills. Highly proficient with analytical tools such as SAS, R, MS Office*. Strong knowledge of the healthcare market access landscape and access and performance related third-party data sources (e.g. formulary data, patient-level claims data, payer-prescriber level Rx data, institutional sales data, HCP-HCO and HCO-HCO affiliations data, etc.) PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS Ability to perform complex data analysis. Ability to synthesize unrelated research findings into coherent, actionable recommendations. Ability to facilitate alignment across senior leaders on analytical approach and scenario definition. Ability to achieve results through people, and collaborate effective across levels and functions.

  • Responsible for becoming knowledgeable on market access related opportunities and challenges related to the Neurology/Immunology Business Unit

  • The Access Analytics Associate Director has involvement in the sales and marketing strategic planning process

  • Ability to be diplomatic in discussions with both internal and external customers, as well as an ability to be persuasive to achieve desired results

  • Manages and provides direction to the Business Analysts

  • Develop and implement a standardized process for taking and fulfilling analytical requests from key stakeholders while identifying a prioritization process to help manage the requests

  • Collaborate with the business unit to develop reports efficiently and effectively to meet information needs of sales, marketing, and operations management


  • Strong strategic, conceptual and analytical thinking combined with the ability to lead and build relationships with key stakeholders to quickly understand business strategies, identify analytics needs and build effective solutions.

  • Lead rigorous, analytics-based decision support to the commercial team, including primary market research, data analytics, forecasting and insight generation from a market access perspective

  • Excellent understanding of financial requirements of a pharmaceutical business

  • Comprehensive understanding of forecasting techniques and challenges, including both theory and practical experience implementing dynamic forecasts

  • Monitor in-line portfolio performance and generate insights to drive continuous improvement of marketing strategy

  • 8+ years' experience working in an advanced analyst role preferred

  • 5+ Years of demonstrated success in analysis and modelling

  • 8+ years of working in a complex data environment Preferred

  • Demonstrated experience using advanced Excel features and techniques

  • Demonstrated experience in analysis and presentation of data to senior levels of an organization

  • Skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships and being known to articulate complex concepts in clear, brief and easy to understand manner.

  • High Proficiency in MS Office tools to include: Project, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook

  • Highly proficient with analytical tools such as SAS an/or R

  • Background in working with Pharmaceutical prescription data, related information delivery, and data standards experience

  • Can clearly articulate the procurement and nuances of Specialty Pharmacy data

  • Background in data investigations within a pharmaceutical data environment

  • Experience working with longitudinal patient level data for treatment and patient flow analysis

  • Expertise in using managed care data such a MMIT and fingertip formulary data

  • Experience in using and developing methodologies such as test-control observational experimental techniques for strategic resource allocation.

  • Experience with data warehouse/business intelligence solutions development and experience

  • Excellent verbal, written, facilitation and interpersonal communication skills with all levels internally and externally including technical and non-technical delivery and including communicating progress, status and risk information

  • Ability to identify priorities, deadlines, and expectations on multiple tasks and execute tasks accordingly with a high degree of quality while managing to tight deadlines and changing business needs

  • High level of detail orientation, organization, flexibility, teamwork, and relationship building skills

  • Ability to routinely demonstrate strong quantitative, data analysis, analytical and complex problem solving skills without supervision including experience on how to distill large amounts of data in to actionable management information

  • High degree of leadership and people skills with a high level of integrity, positive attitude, commitment and work ethic

  • Strong learning agility and self-motivated individual seeking opportunities in a dynamic, team-based work environment that focuses on the customer

  • Ability to travel ~ 15%

  • Bachelor's degree required, MA/MS/MBA or other advanced degree preferred

Will you join us in our pioneering adventure? * PRIMARY FUNCTION: To lead a Market Access squad / team responsible for developing the Payer strategy for a Patient Value Unit, focused on value marketing, payer marketing, specialty pharmacy strategy and value based partnerships. * The Squad Leader will develop and lead a team of Market Access Strategy, Marketing professionals to provide strategic insight, knowledge, and support in the development of successful Market Access strategies and tactical resources used by field-based Account Executives and Field Reimbursement Managers * Responsibilities include development of Market Access channel and account marketing strategies and implementation, specialty pharmacy strategic initiatives, value based strategies, pull-through initiatives, payor market research, and assessing emerging market opportunities for a Patient Value unit. * This individual will collaborate closely with PVU/P/Operations Marketing, Account Management, Trade, Government Affairs & Communications, Legal, Regulatory, Commercial Analytics, Medical Affairs, Field Sales Management, and Training to ensure development of optimal marketing strategies and pull-through initiatives. This individual will also keep US Market Access & Pricing leadership informed about changes and emerging issues in the market access environment and the subsequent implications, including updating and refining channel marketing strategies aligned to and in support of UCB products to optimize patient access opportunities. * Provide strategic leadership role for Market Access with the primary focus on driving strategy and for the Market Access team to support UCB products within a specific Patient Value Unit. This position will lead the development of strategies and tactics which will properly position UCB within multiple Market Access account segments, including government, commercial, specialty and institutional accounts. B. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Describe up to eight essential responsibilities of this position including significant tasks, responsibilities and projects. * Collaborate with internal colleagues to conduct market research with key account segments to aid in the development of a comprehensive Market Access business strategy. * Ensure department is developing and maintaining a thorough and comprehensive understanding of the dynamics driving the various Market Access segments including Commercial, Medicare, Medicaid, GPO, Long Term Care, Integrated Delivery Networks, VA/DoD, Employer Groups, retail & specialty pharmacies, distribution channels and emerging markets. * Lead PVU-focused team effort with agencies and vendors to develop and produce account and segment specific strategies, plans and pull-through materials. * Work closely with all segments of UCB to ensure that knowledge about how internal and external accounts are responding to Market Access programs/services/initiatives, contracting strategy, and pull-through tactics are being shared, understood and acted upon. * Working with Contracts and Pricing and Account teams, makes recommendations for contracting opportunities. * Develops and implements Market Access strategies and tactics for multiple account segments to maximize our resources and opportunities to drive key products. * Develops and implements account strategies and tactics to better position UCB within the evolving health care arena. * Responsible for representing Market Access internally and externally, according to Head of Market Access Payer Strategy & Innovation directions. * Plays a lead role in elevating Market Access knowledge within UCB. * Leads market research/ad board/focus group initiatives to gain appropriate knowledge regarding Market Access challenges and opportunities.
