Minimum Salary $15/hour Job Summary/Basic Function

Purpose of position is to contribute to marketing efforts for a specific language, as directed or approved by the language dean(s) or person designated by the dean(s). Typical responsibilities are:

  • Create social media posts and maintain general social media presence for the Language Community.

  • Maintain or contribute to the language blog.

  • Write or contribute to e-blasts or e-newsletters or both.

  • Make calls, for example to villagers' families, potential villagers, alumni.

  • Participate in marketing events.

  • Other, as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

a. Must be a legal adult

b. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident

c. Interest in interacting with people and ability to establish rapport in person, via phone, and via online media

d. Knowledge of Concordia Language Villages

e. Effective oral and written communication skills in English

f. Sufficient proficiency in the target language to carry out job responsibilities

g. Willingness to learn more about Concordia Language Villages and/or effective marketing strategies and techniques, as needed

h. Demonstrated history of being self-driven and self-motivated

i. Demonstrated ability to implement and complete a project

j. Demonstrated ability to work independently

Preferred Qualifications

a. Previous experience as a summer staff member or other CLV employee, villager, or parent, very highly preferred

b. Experience in marketing or public relations

c. Ability to tell the CLV story succinctly and powerfully, through words and/or pictures

Job Summary/Basic Function BLOGGER * Supervise production of the Village Blog * Take photos of villagers and staff in daily life, post daily to Village blog * Take video of villagers and staff in daily life, post to village blog regularly * Write daily Village blog entry * Ensure appropriateness (copyright, Village policies, etc.) of Village webpage * Conduct staff training as needed in Village * Identify appropriate ways to involve villagers actively in Village webpage and integrate language instruction and use * Prepare, as outlined by the Language Community, blog entries to be posted/made live during the academic year * Coordinate activities of this position with those of the Village Family Liaison and the Village Marketing Assistant to present mutually aware and integrated messaging and content in communications with villager families, alumni and other stakeholders * Be accountable to dean, Marketing Assistant; and technology and communications departments of Concordia Language Villages, as appropriate * Strong aptitude for technology and motivation to learn new systems * Experience working with online photo and video storage platforms (YouTube, Flickr, etc) * Command of written English and the target language COUNSELOR: * Create a physically and psychologically safe environment for villagers and other staff. * Participate in all aspects of Village life, including meals, song times, evening programs, cultural presentations and staff meetings. Lead or assist as directed. * Teach small language classes and/or activity classes. * Live in a cabin with children ("villagers"), as part of a counseling team, to provide supervision. Lead games, Cabin Council and other activities to create a cabin community. * Serve as a positive role model for desired behaviors among villagers, including use of Village language. * Complete other tasks as assigned by the dean and leadership staff. General Responsibilities of All Positions * All positions involve teaching language culture, with the exception of summer support positions (e.g., Culinary Arts, healthcare, transportation). * Work outdoors for a significant part of each day. * Be familiar with and abide by specific policies set forth in the "Personnel Policies," which are designated by Concordia Language Villages administration and individual Village deans. * Read and become familiar with the responsibilities for your specific area of assignment. * After receiving your Staff Handbook and other material from the Village dean, read all information carefully and thoroughly before arriving at the Village. * Be advised the entire staff of each Village is under the direction of and is responsible to the dean. While some positions are supervised by other staff, the dean retains ultimate authority and responsibility for the Village. * Report to orientation prior to your first session as designated by your employment offer. * Assist with setting up the Village, preparing for the next session, and maintaining the Village throughout the session. * Speak the target language with villagers and staff members as much as possible. * Live in community living arrangements, assigned according to gender.
