This academic year position will provide general administrative and organizational support of the Biology department's teaching mission and programs. Duties may include: managing class registration, coordinating organization and training of Teaching Assistants (TAs), supporting TAs, as appropriate, in their assigned tasks, ensuring that courses with multiple TAs and/or sections have uniformity in implementation of course policies, providing Blackboard and exam support for certain classes, being a key contact for Athletics and the Center for Disability Resources, managing absences for large classes and other similar tasks. Excellent organizational and time management skills are required along with basic computing skills and the ability to deal sensitively with students of diverse backgrounds.
This position is part of a bargaining unit and is represented by the union SEIU, Local 200United.
Qualifications
Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience.
Job Specific Qualifications
Understanding of online course management systems or the ability and computer skills that will enable the person to quickly learn this, ability to deal sensitively with students of diverse backgrounds, excellent organizational skills and people skills.
Responsibilities
Organize, manage and participate in TA orientation; semester long instruction and monitoring of grading, interpretation of course policies and general TA support.
Other general administrative support of departments teaching mission and programs.
Manage exam logistics and absence documentation for large classes, Proctor exams, as needed.
Serve as a point of contact for students and TAs regarding course policies and procedures and issues that arise.
Manage some aspects of Blackboard for some classes; post announcements, documents, help troubleshoot clickers etc.
