POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Academic Success Coordinator works collaboratively with the Education Coordinator and Senior Director of Teen Services to develop teens' potential. This includes creating, developing, and evaluating the success of new Academic Success programs, partnerships, and curricula, as well as implementing national programs in that area. This also includes assisting teens to understand how and why work-related skills are important and developing those skills. This role focuses on academic success, soft skills curriculum, experiential activities, and finding and connecting external opportunities through community partnerships. The Academic Success Coordinator will facilitate and find work related tours and field trips for teens in different specialties, and determine which partnerships will best fit Club members. This position will have ownership of programs, initiatives, and partnerships having to do with academic success and workforce development, and, under the direction of the Senior Director of Teen Services, will seek to augment, improve, and expand these over time. The Academic Success Coordinator also coordinates a wide variety of speakers to a variety of career paths. This role will drive the Club's engagement with major employers, local companies, nonprofits, and schools to schedule subject matter expert speakers, coordinate onsite visits to the workforce, and align priority outcomes for teens. The Academic Success Coordinator engages with members and members families to support academic achievements to work toward quantitative and qualitative outcomes that will help launch teens' future work goals. This position is grant funded for 1 year and dependent on future grant funding.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Essential functions and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Leadership:

  • Supports and mirrors the culture, mission, values, and core beliefs of Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale.

  • Builds and maintains positive and appropriate relationships with each teen member and their families.

  • Demonstrates sound judgement and decision-making. Acts quickly in emergency situations.

  • Implements and ensures adherence to Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale's policies and procedures.

  • Promotes an inclusive, welcoming, and respectful environment that embraces diversity.

  • Creates, develops, and evaluates program offerings having to do with academic success and workforce readiness.

  • Serves as the second-in-command to the Senior Director of Teen Services at the Barker Branch, and acts in that capacity should the Director not be present.

  • Leads the organization's academic success offerings to high-school teens by creating and developing partnerships, initiatives, events, and curricula that other teen centers can imitate.

Program & Service Management:

  • Creates new academic success program offerings. Oversees field trips, guest speakers, special events, and outreach for those program offerings.

  • Develops and owns relationships with guidance counselors/other school personnel focused on academic success at relevant schools.

  • Conceptualize, design, and create post-secondary resources and resources addressing college opportunities for teens.

  • Provides opportunities for teens to participate in skill building activities, such as SAT/ACT prep, customer service training, vocational skills, food handlers prep, etc.

  • Coordinates a wide variety of speakers to speak to teens about career opportunities.

  • Coordinates on site and off-site visits or tours to provide teens an opportunity to see different job opportunities and industries.

  • Develops and owns tracking and monitoring of quantitative and qualitative outcomes that are related to workforce development for teens.

  • Maintain grant reporting or data as requested by Development, the Education Coordinator, or the Senior Director of Teen Services.

  • Work collaboratively with the Education Coordinator to run programming related to Workforce Development.

  • Provide and store documentation of progress of teens who attend or participate in workforce related programming or activities.

  • Develop, run, or facilitate workforce development related programming as requested by your supervisor.

Health & Safety:

  • Ensures teen area and surrounding property remains safe, clean, and organized.

  • Maintains Club equipment and property to ensure they stay in good working order.

  • Uses positive guidance and discipline techniques to redirect member behavior issues.

  • Utilizes active supervision techniques when working with Club members.

Partnership Development:

  • Develops partnerships with school administrators, local law enforcement, and employers in the community.

  • When appropriate, fosters other partnerships that enrich teen members' experience.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Supports and mirrors the culture, mission, values, and core beliefs of Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale.

  • Promotes an inclusive, welcoming, and respectful environment that embraces diversity.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field.

  • Minimum 2 years' work experience in youth development.

  • Must be at least 23 years old (BGCA requirements for Keystone Club Advisor).

  • Ability to multitask and adapt to Club's changing needs.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal and cooperative working skills.

  • Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Suite and be comfortable adapting to new technology.

  • Ability to earn and maintain CPR and First Aide certifications.

  • Maintains a valid driver's license and meets eligibility requirements to drive Club vehicles.

  • Flawless ethics and integrity.

  • Safety oriented mindset.
