The Academic Success Advisor provides academic advising for both in-person and online students in the College of Global Futures. A key contributor to increasing student retention and graduation university-wide, this individual will work independently and collaboratively with the College of Global Futures student services team to assist undergraduate students in making timely progress toward a degree through a range of in-person and online academic advising and support strategies. The college's home campus is the Tempe campus, but currently has students at the Tempe, Polytechnic, and Online campuses. There is an opportunity for a hybrid schedule with some remote work, but the advisor will need to be in the office the majority of the work week.

Working Environment

  • Climate-controlled office setting subject to extended periods of being in a stationary position.

  • Constantly detects and operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine and computer printer.

  • Ability to clearly communicate and exchange accurate information to perform essential duties. Expected to be responsive to customers, engaged in work production, resourceful, flexible, and respectful of others.

Work location: The college's home campus is the Tempe campus, but currently has students at the Tempe, Downtown, Polytechnic, and Online campuses. There is an opportunity for a hybrid schedule with some remote work, but the advisor will need to be in the Tempe office the majority of the work week and will participate in occasional night and weekend events.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree AND one (1) year or more previous experience in one or more of the following: advising, student recruitment/retention or related student services utilizing a proactive and innovative approach which results in demonstrated outcomes in retention, graduation, and academic planning; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

  • Professional-level experience in:

  • Working proactively with both prospective and current undergraduate students in a student services-related environment, via in-person, phone, and online meetings

  • Providing a high level of timely and quality service

  • Coordinating or managing programs and/or projects

  • Designing presentation materials and giving oral presentations in small to large groups settings

  • Interpreting student needs and determining when a referral to another resource as appropriate

  • Working with diverse populations

  • Actively participating in a team environment

Demonstrated knowledge of:

  • ASU policies and procedures

  • Types of student support and resources

  • Higher education structure and organization

  • PeopleSoft, DARS, and Salesforce (or comparable student information, degree tracking, and reporting systems)

Evidence of:

  • Ability and willingness to rapidly adapt to and effectively utilize new technology, practices, policies, and methods

  • Effective communication skills

  • Ability to juggle multiple demands simultaneously, both independently and with supervision

  • Master's degree preferred

Essential Duties

  • Provides one-on-one and group academic advising to undergraduate students on the Tempe, Polytechnic, and Online campuses to ensure successful progress towards academic goals and timely degree completion.

  • Advises current, prospective, and transitioning students in-person, via telephone, email, Salesforce, and using other electronic communication tools (e.g., Zoom).

  • Assists students with resolution of academic issues, exploration of academic options, course registration, identifying academic opportunities, and general navigation of the ASU academic system.

  • Makes appropriate referrals to university resources.

  • Conducts regular outreach to students via phone, email, and in-person to promote success and retention.

  • Processes student paperwork, including standards petitions, withdrawals, certificate additions and removals, and others.

  • Makes DARS exceptions as needed.

  • Interprets academic policies and procedures.

  • Participates in a wide variety of recruitment/admission, orientation, retention, career development, and student engagement events/activities, including occasional evenings and weekends.

  • Works collaboratively and collegially with academic units and services throughout the University to facilitate comprehensive student support.

Salary Range

$42,050 - $50,000 per year, DOE
