The School of Public Affairs has an opening for a full-time University Staff (unclassified) Academic Programs Manager position.

The Academic Programs Manager plays a pivotal role in overseeing and coordinating the various academic programs within the School of Public Affairs. This role involves managing programmatic initiatives, ensuring compliance with institutional and accreditation standards, and fostering an environment conducive to academic excellence. The Academic Programs Manager collaborates closely with faculty, administrators, and other stakeholders to enhance the quality and effectiveness of academic offerings.

Academic Programs Manager

What you will do:

Manage day-to-day operations of all academic programs

a. Provides logistical and program coordination support to faculty program directors and other SPA staff.

1.Manage teaching assignments for all courses.

b. Plan and implement the SPA cohort programs (currently includes the Accelerated MPA program (AMPA), international Accelerated MPA (IMPA) and Executive MPA program (ExecMPA); expansion is expected and desired)

1.Propose strategy for sustainability and growth in the SPA cohort programs

2.Responsible for planning cohort program logistics (events like speakers and coordination of lunch and learns, and other high impact, engaged learning experiences)

3.Advises students enrolled in cohort programs

c. Identify opportunities for program growth, expansion, and innovation to meet the needs of students and stakeholders.

d. Collaborate with School leadership to develop and implement initiatives that align with institutional priorities and strategic objectives.

e. Cultivate program quality through supporting adoption of high impact practices, student success supports, or other techniques that improve student well-being and success.

f. Updates, maintains, and develops content for the Student Resources, Faculty Resources, Capstone and other program-related materials

i. Supports messaging efforts with current students about program resources, academic support, and other opportunities.

ii. Maintains all handbooks for students, faculty & lecturers

iii. Manages Canvas pages for students, faculty & lecturers

Program Evaluation and Reporting

a. Directs the methodology for tracking, evaluating, and collecting appropriate data to determine the quality of academic programs

b. Supports student success retention outcomes like persistence and graduation by determining appropriate interventions based on program evaluation findings

c. Develops and maintains a methodology for collecting student outcome data beyond grades for individual students

d. Manages all data collection and analysis for program-level decisions

e. Compliance and accreditation - leads accreditation, university program reviews, and programmatic annual reports processes

  • Ensure that academic programs adhere to institutional policies, standards, and regulatory requirements

  • Coordinate accreditation reviews and assist in the preparation of accreditation reports and documentation

Provide Program Support (10%)

  • Reviews course designs, pedagogy, course structures, and lecturer/faculty syllabus submissions, and with faculty to enhance retention and student learning outcomes

  • Connect faculty with supports across campus for professional development

b. Lecturer recruitment, training, and onboarding

  1. conducting outreach to develop a pool of new lecturers

  2. maintaining relationships with part-time faculty and lecturers

  3. provide support to lecturers on Canvas, sharing course shells and content, etc.


c. Create teaching and learning programs to support pedagogical skills and knowledge

d. Develop opportunities to engage visiting scholars with SPA students, staff, and faculty

Supervision and other key responsibilities (5%)

a. Provides supervision for the Academic Operations Coordinator (1.0 University Staff) and one SPA Programs Graduate Assistant

b. Serve as liaison from SPA to academic planning partners across campus

Qualifications you already possess (Minimum Qualifications)

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., education, higher education administration, public affairs, management, business, operations)

  • Minimum of three full-time years of previous experience in operations and program management, preferably in a higher education setting.

  • Record of managing operations and retention for either employee, student, volunteer or member organizations

Preferred Qualification to possess (Preferred Qualifications)

  • A master's degree in a relevant field (e.g., education, higher education administration, public affairs, management, business, operations)

  • Five or more full-time years of previous experience in operations and program management, preferably in a higher education setting.

  • Three years of full-time experience utilizing organizational data to support strategy development, program growth, or decision-making

  • Organizational operations and process improvement experience (2 - 5 years)

  • Experience with higher education accreditation standards and processes

  • Demonstrated leadership ability and experience supervising professional staff

  • Teaching or Instructional Design Experience (may include either K-12 or Higher Education)

  • Experience developing online instructional curriculum

  • Experience managing multiple concurrent projects or tasks while adapting to changing priorities

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong understanding of higher education accreditation standards and processes

  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders, including faculty, staff, students, and external partners

  • Commitment to fostering academic excellence and student success

  • Record of managing operations and retention for either employee, student, volunteer or member organizations

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $65,169 - $72,029.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.
