Job Description

The Dental Hygiene Academic Program Coordinator will assist with coordinating activities and functions of the Dental Hygiene (DH) program. Assisting with on-campus programs, the on-line degree completion programs, and any additional state-wide programs to ensure that goals and objectives of the Dental Hygiene programs are accomplished in accordance with established priorities, time limitations, funding limitations or other specifications. Assists in the creation and/or maintenance and coordination of one or more academic programs within a unit designed to meet specific goals. Ensures the implementation of policies and practices, and assists in conducting oversight, review, and analysis of the effectiveness and compliance of the program(s) Working directly with the Assistant to the Department Chair and Academic Program Coordinator, Sr., helping with basic administrative needs, student management and back up to the Clinic Administrative Assistant.The Academic Program Coordinator will have the responsibility for implementing and coordinating programs, and will be in charge of tracking the student's completion of courses and to guide them in staying on path to complete their BS degree.

Program Administrative Oversight

  • Assists with coordinating activities and functions of NAU Dental Hygiene (DH) with interrelated activities of other programs, departments, or staff, for both the DH Degree Completion Program and Flagstaff campus, to ensure accreditation goals and objectives of the programs are accomplished in accordance with student, faculty, and staff priorities, and that optimum efficiency and compliance with appropriate policies, procedures, and specifications are met.

  • Assists with coordinating phone conferences, recruitment, and meeting logistics between self, facilitating program directors, chairs, and faculty of community college DH programs.

  • Conducts and attends Gold-Star, Transfer visit day, Discover NAU, 2NAU, NAU orientation and various events and tours on behalf of the department.

  • Serves as a liaison to dental hygiene leadership, faculty, committees, and other personnel in regard to dental hygiene specific issues related to student matriculation.

  • Participates in departmental and campus-wide committees as appropriate (SADHA, CODA, Kiddie Clinic).

  • Acts as backup Coursedog scheduler for the Department.

  • Develops positive working relationships with other departments (AT, CSD, PA, PT, NUR).

  • May be asked to assist with Dental Hygiene accreditation duties.

Student Support for Program

  • 40%
  • Point of contact for the Flagstaff program, CEP & degree completion programs.

  • Assists with all aspects of the dental hygiene application cycle.

  • Assists with the creation and editing of the online applications.

  • Conducts year-round meetings and tours with prospective students

  • Assists with Coordinating all DH orientations along with coordinating student events or projects.

  • Organizes confidential student files, screens student eligibility for the degree completion program and completes student applicant process for on-campus and degree completion programs.

  • Oversees electronic database, updating confidential student information.

  • Responsible for assigning and maintaining student locker information and student sterilization cubbies.

  • Responsible for students and patient communication submissions via the website and email.

  • Verifies and approves degree completion applications and verify students are eligible for the program.

  • Markets and promotes CEP & Degree Completion Programs.

  • Coordinate with advising for CEP and DC students after program acceptance.

  • Verify and submits transfer credit requests for degree completion students.

  • Visits various valley hygiene programs to present and promote the degree completion and CEP programs.

Other

  • Assists with various special assignments (Project Zero, public health, accreditation, committees) within the DH Dept.

  • Assists clinic front office with patient scheduling, patient records requests, clinic phone and email assistance along with uploading patient forms.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in field appropriate to area of assignment

  • Two to four years of relevant administrative coordinative program experience.

  • A combination of related education, experience and training may be used as an equivalent to the above Minimum Requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three plus years experience in Higher Education.

  • Three plus years of Dental/Dental Hygiene knowledge or work experience.

  • Experience in accurate, highly detailed and repetitive work.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Knowledge of Dental Hygiene degrees, education requirements and licensing.

  • Knowledge in coordinating, conducting and scheduling various department events.

  • Excellent organizational skills.

  • Extensive customer service skills.

  • Ability to effectively communicate and problem solve.

  • The ability to work effectively with students from a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds.

Background Information

This position has been identified as a safety/security sensitive position. Therefore, per AZ Revised Statute, Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, employment history investigation, degree verification (in some cases) and fingerprinting. Finally, each year Northern Arizona University releases an Annual Security Report. The report is a result of a federal law known as the Clery Act. The report includes Clery reportable crime statistics for the three most recent completed calendar years and discloses procedures, practices and programs NAU uses to keep students and employees safe including how to report crimes or other emergencies occurring on campus. In addition, the Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus as this campus has on-campus student housing. This report discloses fire safety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housing and statistics for fires that occurred in those facilities. Salary

Salary range begins at $44,057. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.

FLSA Status

This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime or compensatory time for additional time worked.

This is a Classified Staff (CLS) position.
