In this Role:
Under the general supervision of the School Principal and Director of Teaching and Learning, the Academic Interventionist will provide services to students, educators, administrators and families that improve students' learning experience in reading. The Academic Intervention Specialist will support the Principal, Instructional Coaches, and Teachers with the implementation of literacy curriculum in the classroom and work with identified groups of students in helping them meet their reading goals. Specific responsibilities will include:
Supports teachers and non-teaching staff in implementing and monitoring of literacy curriculum.
Coordinates with administrators and other staff members to provide interventions that meet individual students' abilities and needs, including those who are at-risk.
Serves as a ready resource to students to provide interventions that will lead each student to increased reading proficiency.
Maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping for the RtI process focused on Reading.
Works with school team to maintain a safe and positive environment for learning.
Intervention Planning
Uses data to make informed recommendations regarding student's reading ability and interventions needed, including caseloads and intervention support.
Models individual and group literacy interventions for classroom teachers.
Supports implementation of individualized and/or small group intervention plans and uses data to make decisions about student needs.
Observes students and participates in meetings.
Administers, collects and monitors formative and summative assessment data to offer teachers strategies for differentiated literacy supports.
Co-plans curriculum with Director of Teaching and Learning and MTSS Coordinator for Tier 1 support for students.
Provides support, training and technical assistance
Supports administrators in addressing literacy challenges in grade level meetings
Collaborates with ELA SI Teams and assists in continuous improvement efforts
Conducts training for staff regarding reading intervention, workshop, Fountas and Pinnell, and training for specific student needs.
Facilitates, quarterly, data review meetings with building SI Teams
Co-supervises paraprofessionals in support of literacy intervention
Provides 1-on-1 or group coaching/technical assistance to Principal, and/or other members of the building Team, as needed.
Additional Duties
Performs other administrative related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

What You Need:
Knowledge of foundations in research-based practices and strategies in literacy, including theories/models/research and best practices in these areas.
Knowledge and skills in differentiated instruction based on student learning styles.
Knowledge and skills in implementing, monitoring, and evaluating individual or small group reading intervention support
Knowledge and skills in collecting, analyzing, and maintaining student data, as well as the formulation of data-based action plans.
Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students, including knowledge of Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
Ability to organize and coordinate work.
Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work
