Forsyth Technical Community College is a catalyst for equitable economic mobility, empowering lives and transforming communities. As aligned with the college's vision and mission, the Upward Bound Summer  Program teacher will provide individual student support for the newly federally-funded TRiO - Upward Bound programs. The grants serve 120 first-generation and low-income students in (60) Robert Glenn & (60) North Forsyth High Schools to increase their grades, retention rates, graduation rates, knowledge of the college application process, and college enrollment. The position partners with Robert Glenn & North Forsyth High Schools Upward Bound Academic Coordinators, the Upward Bound Summer Staff, Coaches, and the central office staff for TRiO Upward Bound.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in education, English, Math, Science, or a related field.

  • Knowledge of working with low-income, first-generation students with disabilities and/or students from diverse backgrounds.

  • Knowledge and/or experience working in a collegiate and high school environment.

  • Must be available for all required dates (Day Camp: June 17, 2024 - July 19, 2024, Monday through Thursday).

  • Must be available on the week of June 10, 2024- June 13, 2024 from 5pm-8pm for training.

  • Ability to work in a diverse environment.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office and/or Google Workspace, spreadsheets, presentation and collaboration apps and software.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience of working or knowledge of the TRIO programs.

  • Professional and/or personal experience overcoming barriers like those of Project participants.

  • Bi-lingual Skills (Spanish- English)

  • Ability to relate with students of multicultural backgrounds; be approachable, patient, and friendly.

  • Proficiency in using educational technology and resources for teaching purposes.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

  • Dependable and committed to helping students.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to motivate and inspire student.

  • Help tutor students in various subjects.

  • Serve as a positive role model and mentor for student

  • Possess experience working with diverse constituents.

  • Knowledge and experience with de-escalation techniques.

Essential Duties

Essential Duties and Responsibilities includes the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Develop lesson plans: Design comprehensive lesson plans that align with the ACT exam's content and structure. Incorporate various teaching methods, such as lectures, discussions, group activities, and multimedia resources, to cater to diverse learning styles.

  • Track student academic progress.

  • Foster a positive learning environment.

  • Assist with workshops and activities that support skills development, motivation, college, career, and life readiness.

  • Provide individualized instructions.

  • Help maintain documentation for federally funded grant programs.

  • Perform additional job-related duties as assigned or as appropriate.
