INTO University Partnerships collaborate with leading universities to provide international students with a personalized and highly supportive learning environment in which to acclimatize to life on a US university campus and prepare for long-term academic success. Since 2006, INTO has launched partnerships to internationalize universities in the US, UK, and Asia. Universities in the US include: Oregon State University, University of South Florida, Colorado State University, Marshall University, Drew University, George Mason University, Saint Louis University, The University of Alabama at Birmingham, Washington State University, Suffolk University, Illinois State University and Hofstra University.

Reporting to the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Studies and the Executive Director of INTO Hofstra, the Academic Director provides strategic leadership to all the academic programs and personnel within the INTO Hofstra Center. The Academic Director is primarily responsible for ensuring the delivery of a high-quality academic experience for all Center-supported programs, including effective academic student support, and advising, and successful progression through the program. The AD continually evaluates the program's outcomes and uses data to drive program development, growth, execution while working collaboratively with all University units in forwarding the University's goals towards internationalization of the campus and supporting University international recruitment efforts. This includes, but is not limited to, the overall operational responsibility for the management and collaborative development of teaching resources, faculty, academic program managers, assistants, and related resources. The Academic Director must be a strong team player who participates in both academic and student services initiatives.

This position will report to the University Vice Provost for Undergraduate Studies, with day-to-day oversight/management by the INTO Hofstra Executive Director.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensures the INTO Center programs have carefully designed curricula that align with market demands and deliver effective academic programs that provide students with a strong foundation for success.

  • Promotes and achieves student success and student satisfaction during and after Center academic programs; collaborating with team leads to ensure the integration of language and content courses, acculturation, student support, and student success.

  • Works to maintain standards and best practices set by the major professional bodies for Intensive English language programs with a focus on standards for curriculum and student achievement.

  • Directs the accreditation application process for the Center with appropriate accrediting agencies.

  • Facilitates English Language Placement testing for all students, including Direct Entry.

  • Contributes to the formulation of the annual budget and the regulation of expenditure in the Center, monitoring the financial performance of the Center through the efficient management of teaching resources, including teaching hours, class sizes, and tutoring.

  • Develops opportunities for collaboration with key campus stakeholders including academic departments, International Admissions, academic affairs, Center for University Advising, and the division of Student Enrollment, Engagement and Success.

  • Implements and monitors student enrollment, advising, progression, and retention processes and policies for Center programs, as well as ensuring that systems and procedures are followed, and accurate records and reports are maintained.

  • Analyzes reports on the progress and satisfaction of students' achievement of objectives, including progression through the program and degree completion at Hofstra.

  • Represents the Center in various campus committees and/or taskforces at the request of the Provost.

  • Liaises with INTO regional staff and educational counselors regarding academic programs, student academic issues, special programs, training, and recruiting.

  • Coordinates and ensures follow through of the hiring, orientation, evaluation, and performance of English language faculty.

  • Performs annual evaluations of direct reports as needed.

  • Serves as a role model for working with and advising students, maintaining collegial relationships and high professional standards in all matters.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in TESOL, Linguistics, Higher Education Leadership, Curriculum and Teaching, or closely related field required.

  • At least three years of teaching and/or academic administration experience at the university level.

  • Demonstrated ability to recruit, manage, and motivate an academic team in a fast-paced dynamic environment.

  • Creative, passionate, quick thinking, driven by energy and enthusiasm - coupled with personal warmth and approachability.

  • Commitment to University goals and strategies for expanding international programs.

  • Proven customer service skills and demonstrated work ethic.

  • Must be able to travel freely to and from the United States.

  • A truly international outlook, with an ability to work in a diverse environment and to exhibit cross-cultural awareness and understanding.

  • Hands-on approach to academic delivery, customer service and business growth.

  • Ability to work with the Executive Director and Vice Provost for Undergraduate Studies to build and manage relationships with peers, senior managers, university stakeholders, parents, and students from a range of linguistic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with the Executive Director to deploy and manage resources and Center operations effectively with priority and time management.

  • Ability to use sound judgment and decision-making in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment.

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; competent IT and analytical skills.

  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally, as needed.

  • Passionate about mission, purpose, and results.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in TESOL, Linguistics, Higher Education Leadership, Curriculum and Teaching, or closely related field preferred.

  • Significant experience in leadership in higher education, language school management, TESOL/TEFL, or INTO ESL environment.

  • Experience with the Commission on English Language Program Accreditation (CEA) process.

  • Demonstrated involvement with regional and/or national professional organizations such as TESOL, NAFSA, English USA, or UCIEP.

  • Experience working within a complex and/or highly matrixed organization.

Salary/Salary Range $90,000 - $100,000
