Job Description:

The Academic Coordinator leads all aspects of the Region VII Louisiana Science & Engineering Fair and the Louisiana State Science & Engineering Fair (LSEF) each year for all qualifying participants. Each fair has two divisions:

Junior Division (6th-8th grade) and Senior Division (9th-12th grade). The Region VII Science & Engineering Fair is open to the following parishes: East Baton Rouge, West Baton Rouge, East Feliciana, West Feliciana, Pointe Coupee, Iberville, & Ascension Parish. The Louisiana State Science & Engineering Fair is open to all qualifying students from Louisiana Regional fairs.

Coordinates non-credit continuing education professional development courses & programs for participants from business, industry, government, professional organizations, and the general adult population. Coordinate awarded training grants and quarterly reporting.

Job Responsibilities:

Coordinate logistics for each academic competition/fair - update the website, reserve event space, update zFairs registrations system, order catering, design & order t-shirts, order awards, purchase supplies. Schedule training/information sessions for each fair inviting school teachers and regional coordinators from the other regions.

Affiliate each fair with the International Science & Engineering organization (Society of Science). Coordinate volunteer recruitment & registration for each fair, arrange for travel (staff & students) to the International Science & Engineering Fairs. Collaborate with generating Science & Engineering fair sponsorships. 50%

Collaborate on Louisiana Workforce Commission Incumbent Worker Training Programs grant quarterly reports ensuring all training is accounted for in each quarter. Coordinate all logistics for awarded grants to include tracking, scheduling and fiscal arrangements. Regularly meet and communicate with company representative to ensure training is on track to meet performance metrics. 30%

Handle all professional development program logistics including customer service, scheduling, location, instructors, course materials, supplies and equipment, catering and transportation. Ability to manage large scale projects. 15%

Additional Requirements:

Vehicle Operation

  • University employees whose principal responsibilities of employment include operating a vehicle, performing maintenance on a vehicle, or supervising any public employee who operates or maintains a vehicle and positions with an expectation to travel will require an MVR and are subject to drug screens per PM-33/PS-67/FASOP HR-04.

Operation Essential Personnel

  • This position may be asked to work during an official closure, but who is otherwise not required to report to the physical campus during a closure and whose absence does not present a risk to the safety, resources, and well-being of the campus per FASOP HR-01.

Minor Contact

  • This position and/or position's responsibilities require work directly with minors. Finger printing and National Sex Offender Registry check required per FASOP HR-04.

Use department vehicle periodically.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree with 2 years of experience OR Master's Degree

Specific Experience: Background in education.
