POSITION SUMMARY: This position is part time.
Academic Coaching is defined as a collaborative learning process that occurs between a coach and a student and examines a student's academic strengths and needs. The Academic Coach offers guidance and identifies strategies that can lead the student to academic achievement. Academic Coaching provides students with continuous support in various academic elements, such as learning/study strategies and time management. Coaches understand that each student has different strengths and perspectives and strive to accommodate each student's academic needs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Develop and provide student-centered learning assistance such as: goal-setting, motivation, time/task management, active learning strategies (note-taking, reading comprehension, test-taking), communication with professors, research and library navigation assistance, and campus resources
Support academically at-risk students who have been placed on academic probation and warning.
Spearhead equity-minded initiatives that will advance the mission and further develop the area of Academic Coaching.
Conduct outreach to students, faculty and staff regarding support services provided by Academic Coaching.
Maintain a spreadsheet of utilization data regarding Academic Coaching services.
Collaborate with advisors, faculty, and other support staff as needed/required.
Participate in relevant professional development opportunities.
Participate in mandatory training/coursework, including but not limited to:
Title IX and Sexual Misconduct
Non-Discrimination and Sexual Harassment
Security Policy and Notification of Security Reporting
FERPA
Municipal Ethics Law
Assume other related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree required.
REQUIREMENTS: Demonstrated organizational skills, attention to detail, motivation, and high degree of openness to new approaches and new ideas.
A strong interest in college student development and/or learning theory. Experience and/or ability to work with, and motivate, students from diverse populations (e.g., students with learning disabilities and other disabilities, students of color, multilingual students, non-binary and transgender students, veteran students, and non-traditional students). Commitment to customer service excellence/support to enhance an environment of equity, diversity and inclusion. Ability to initiate work independently, without direct supervision, as well as identify and resolve day-to-day problems.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. Strong computer skills; proficiency with Microsoft Office products. Experience in teaching, academic tutoring, peer mentoring and/or counseling is preferred
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None.
TRAVEL: Work assignments and travel may be required between Quincy and Plymouth campuses.
