Academic and Financial Assistance Advisor

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Academic and Financial Assistance Advisor at Cameron University-Duncan will serve students in the areas of Academic Advisement and Financial Assistance. The successful candidate must have the ability to deal extensively and effectively with a wide variety of individuals using excellent interpersonal, listening, and communication skills. The Academic and Financial Assistance Advisor may be assigned occasional staggered work hours including evenings and weekends to accommodate the needs of a diverse student population. The Academic and Financial Assistance Advisor will be required to develop and maintain a broad understanding of non-academic university services and resources available to students and will serve as a liaison between the Duncan campus and various offices on the main campus especially Academic Advising and Financial Assistance. The position may include other duties as assigned including the leadership and coordination of some student activities on the Duncan campus. The Academic and Financial Assistance Advisor will report to the Director of the Duncan Campus.

Job Duties as Academic Advisor include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing individual academic counseling to undergraduate and concurrent students on placement, course selection, choosing an appropriate major, and academic performance.

  • Serving as academic advisor to CU-Duncan students of various majors.

  • Maintaining frequent and regular interaction and follow-up with assigned advisees.

  • Referring students to the appropriate academic support services and resources.

  • Participating in college recruiting activities and offsite visits to potential student groups.

  • Informing prospective students of topics related to careers and university programs.

  • Communicating with local, assigned high school counselors to ensure the success of concurrent students.

Job Duties as Financial Assistance Advisor include, but are not limited to

  • Maintaining a working knowledge of Federal, State, and University financial aid regulations and guidelines.

  • General understanding of Federal methodology need analysis and its application to Pell, Student Work Study, Federal Student Loans, OTAG, and OK Promise.

  • Ability to effectively explain regulations to students, parents, high school counselors, and other university personnel.

  • Counseling and advising students and parents about financial aid eligibility, application procedures, aid programs, and costs of attendance with emphasis on the particular need and situations of individual students.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to maintain accurate records

  • Knowledge of computer technology and software applications

  • Propensity to work congenially and respectfully with diverse populations

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree

  • University or college level advisement, enrollment, or financial assistance experience

  • Experience working with diverse traditional and non-traditional student populations

  • Experience or knowledge of special characteristics relative to the Duncan campus

SALARY RANGE:

Commensurate with background and experience
