The University of Northern Iowa's College of Education Advising and Teacher Education Success (CATS) Office seeks applicants for a three-year fixed-term, Academic Advisor, starting in July 2024. Advises currently enrolled undergraduate majors in the College of Education (COE) and prospective students through drop in sessions, individual appointments and group meetings; participates in office's responsibilities for all COE students from freshman through graduation, and coordinates and communicates with COE departments regarding curriculum changes and participatory advising roles; works closely with other individuals responsible for determining eligibility for admission into various levels of Teacher Education program; increases retention and promotes student success; works closely with multicultural affinity-based groups to increase retention; participates in campus conversations to better and systematically provide advising and retention advice for all COE students; maintains appropriate and useful data for decision making; serves as voice of COE, advising roles and responsibilities to other appropriate segments of the University; and advances and develops a professional readiness program for COE students in teaching and non-teaching majors.
Education Requirements:
Master's degree in college student personnel or related field required.
Required Qualifications:
Excellent written and oral communication skills required. Regular night hours will be necessary.
Desirable Qualifications:
At least one year of advising experience; and experience with various computer data systems preferred.
