Job Description:

SUNY Delhi seeks a dynamic, forward thinking and engaging Advisor to the join the Collective Pursuit of Academic program. SUNY Delhi prides itself on being a welcoming college community for all. The Academic Advisor will provide information and counsel to students regarding their academic pursuits and progress. Advising will occur both individually and in group settings concerning all aspects of academic life. The Advisor will be expected to work with and embrace a diverse student population.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities Include:

  • Keep current on philosophy and trends in academic advisement and incorporate this knowledge into the SUNY Delhi advising program

  • Maintain an advising load and work directly with students to accomplish educational goals by developing individual academic plans based on students' abilities and interests

  • Provide students with information focused on achieving academic success including topics such as registration, transitioning to college, academic progress, financial aid, exploration of various fields of study and career choice, change of major and graduation petitions

  • Convey and interpret SUNY Delhi's academic rules and regulations, academic prerequisites, programs, majors and courses of study and in-bound and out-bound transfer and college policies

  • Present workshops and seminars on various topics to assist students in achieving academic success

  • Refer students to related offices such as Counseling & Health Services, Academic Achievement Center, Career & Transfer Services etc. as appropriate

  • Develop new methods and tools to connect and communicate with students

  • Participating in orientation, admissions, and Accepted Student Day programs

  • Assist Advising Office in its role with the newly developed one stop initiative

  • Assist Advising Office in support of all incoming students prior to enrollment

  • Assist Advising Office with supporting all students throughout the registration process

  • Assist Director of Academic Advising with early intervention outreach

  • Foster exemplary working relationships with students, faculty, staff and administrators

  • Respond to faculty and staff requests for assistance with student related matters

  • Prepare and maintain student records and contacts as well as working with Degree Works and other academic advising technologies

  • Assist with assessment of the advising program

  • Demonstrate the ability to meet deadlines, manage multiple tasks, and prioritize duties

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in psychology, education or related field

  • Experience working with and advising college level students

  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills as well as computer proficiency

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in related field

  • Working knowledge of Banner System

  • Working knowledge of degree evaluation system (Degree Works or similar product)

  • Familiarity with financial aid guidelines and its impact on academic advisement

Additional Information:

  • Salary: $53,151

  • Work Schedule: Full-time

  • Reports to: Director of Academic Advisement & Student Success

  • This is a 12-month position

  • Budget Title: Senior Staff Assistant, SL3
