Position is temporary with the possibility of conversion to permanent. This position is expected to provide support for the operations of the NAWSON Office of Student Services at one or multiple UH campus locations.Position is expected to begin approximately July/August 2024 or as mutually acceptable. Renewal of appointment is dependent on performance, program needs and/or availability of funds. Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides academic advising for current UH West Oahu BS Nursing students and assists with communicating progression requirements.

  • Monitors student progress toward degree and conducts degree requirement checks for graduation.

  • Monitors and assist students with course registration; ensures coursework is in accordance with program plan.

  • Responsible for maintaining accurate student records in the student database.

  • Assists in the development/maintenance of new informational resources.

  • Designs, implements, executes mailings, electronic correspondence, and other communications to students.

  • Analyzes and advises the Director and Undergraduate Student Affairs committee about enrollment trends, attrition, and retention of undergraduate students.

  • Responsible for developing, maintaining, and coordinating new student orientations program (content, design, presentation, speakers, logistics, evaluations).

  • Advises new admittees (course loads, housing, health, orientation, etc.).

  • Advises students on current NAWSON (Nancy Atmospera-Walch School of Nursing) and campus academic regulations.

  • Assist in identifying potential admission and progression issues and recommends possible courses of action to Director.

  • Collaborates with the Admissions and Records and Financial Aid Offices to support student admission and progression processing.

  • Keeps abreast of changes in program, admission, policies, and procedures.

  • Collects and analyzes student data including the completion of evaluation survey and information requests and prepares reports and recommendation to the Director.

  • Assists in recruitment activities (Open House, Manoa Experience, Job Fair) that enhances the visibility of the school and increases enrollment.

  • Serves as a liaison with campus and other university student service department advisors locally to network and identify best practices in student advising.

  • Communicates with campus and system-wide student service departments and offices to maintain effective working relationships and identify best practices in student services at the direction of Director.

  • Recommends to Director opportunities for improvement in student advising and develops new programs/services at direction of Director.

  • Collects data and assists in the compilation of student service surveys.

  • Administers outreach programs that will both enhance the visibility of NAWSON in community and increase enrollment.

  • Prepares and maintains student databases for programs such as curriculum, program evaluation, and reports.

  • Coordinates with University Health Partners UHP in the management of Health Clearance which is required for clinical placement.

  • Oversee the day-to-day management of front desk counter services to students.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Possession of a baccalaureate degree in nursing, dental hygiene, education, educational counseling, social sciences or related field and 3 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for significant high level complex interaction with individuals/groups in such areas as counseling, facilitation, conflict resolution, performance improvement, customer relations; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.

  • Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques in the area of customer service and/or academic support as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts, principles, and methodologies.

  • Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations and theories and systems associated with confidentiality, systems theory, and academics.

  • Demonstrated ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems using creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective, innovative, and timely manner.

  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.

  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals. Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.

  • If applicable, for supervisory work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations.

  • Demonstrated ability to learn specific techniques needed to interact in a productive and useful manner with students, including disadvantaged or minority groups and individuals.

  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and consistently meet deadlines.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of the techniques and procedures involved in academic advising (i.e. admissions) or related fields.

  • Knowledge of university policies and procedures as they pertain to major duties of position.

  • Knowledge of Excel, Access.
