Job Summary

The Academic Advisor will report to the Associate Dean of the School of Business and will provide academic advising and counseling services to undergraduate business students, by understanding and interpreting the program of study and course requirements within the School of Business. The Academic Advisor may also be called upon to provide or assist with programs that promote comprehensive educational opportunities for business students. The Academic Advisor provides quality academic advising assistance for all advising needs for all business students and by assisting School of Business faculty in their advising and mentoring roles.

Responsibilities

Function 1 -

Advise students regarding academic programs, curricula, course selection, and prerequisite requirements.

Function 2 -

Monitor and track retention, progression and graduation of all students with assigned population.

Function 3 -

Provide assistance to students in the areas of admission requirements, registration, academic warning, probation and suspension and other academic policies and procedures.

Function 4 -

Assist School of Business students in course registration, including verifying course prerequisites and requirements.

Function 5 -

Assist School of Business faculty and staff who are involved in academic advising.

Function 6 -

Represent the School of Business at Open Houses, new student orientation and registration (Bear Essentials), Festival of Majors, and similar.

Function 7 -

Participate in individual professional development, as needed.

Function 8 -

Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • 4 Year / Bachelor's Degree in related field

  • Four years of experience working with college students or adolescents in an academic counseling capacity.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters Degree

  • Experience with Banner and/or DegreeWorks or similar student information systems

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

SKILLS

  • Accuracy in evaluating and articulating information concerning students to faculty, administration, and staff, and in interpreting institutional rules, regulations, policies, and procedures is essential.

  • Excellent customer service skills.

  • Attention to detail, confidentiality, and professionalism.
