The Senior Academic Advisor in the College of Health works under the direction of the Associate Dean for Academic Programs to provide comprehensive advising to College of Health students. The SAA works closely with other advising personnel across campus as well as academic and career services personnel to ensure high-quality advising and academic services for all students. The SAA is responsive to the needs of a large number of diverse and first-gen students and works in a high-volume and fast-paced work environment. This position is a Grade: 9-40 with an approximate salary range of $54,390-$66,190 and is subject to change based on experience, skills and qualifications

1.Academic and Student Support (60%)

  • Caseload Management
  • Actively manage a caseload of students from admission through program completion. Work closely with students to develop a personalized academic plan that aligns with their career goals and program requirements, including guidance on advanced studies in health (MD, PhD, Nursing, PA, Dental). Use predictive analytics and other tools to identify and support at-risk students; Connect at-risk students with appropriate support offices on campus
  • Regular Communication
  • Meet and communicate regularly with students using multiple modalities and in ways tailored to their preferences related to academics, experiential learning planning, and through periods of academic difficulty making appropriate referrals to on-campus and off-campus services.
  • Collaboration
  • Work closely with department chairs, the Associate Dean for Academic Programs, Assistant Director of Student Experiences and other units across campus such as the Career and Professional Development Center, Office of First-year Experience, Office of Diversity, Inclusion and Equity and Student Affairs.
  • Advocacy
  • Advocate for students while enforcing institutional policies and regulations. Liaise between the student and the University community working collegially with other offices and departments to ensure student service functions are performed in an efficient and consistent manner.
  • Support
  • Respond to student inquiries from point of contact to resolution; follow up on referrals. Establish and implement college-level support structure.

2.Assessment and Data (20%)

  • Data Collection
  • Assess, collect, and report college-level student data as they pertain to student persistence, retention, graduation rates, and satisfaction. Develop and oversee College assessment efforts, including the development of benchmarks for progress.
  • Portfolio Management
  • Monitoring, managing, and reporting on a portfolio of advisees using required processes and technology platforms.
  • Record Keeping
  • Maintain up-to-date notes and record keeping of each student in Salesforce or Navigate, including tracking student academic progress and outcomes using appropriate university systems. Maintain consistency and compliance within ADA, FERPA, SEVIS, and other state, federal, University, and College of Professional Studies guidelines.
  • Engagement Tracking
  • Track and report on substantive engagements, student meetings, availability, and activities to ensure capacity meets volume.
  • Evaluation- Continuously monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the advising structure, gathering feedback from key stakeholders and making adjustments as necessary to improve student outcomes.

3.Administration, Academic Program Support, & Professional Development (20%)

  • Manage
  • Manage and refine the college's professional advising model through data collection, analysis, and strategic modifications.
  • Train
  • Develop and improve processes. Design and deliver training programs for advising staff to enhance their skills and knowledge.
  • Collaboration
  • Work as a member of the Dean's Office academic team to support and provide coverage, as possible and appropriate, for the ongoing operation.
  • Paperwork Processing
  • Process in a timely fashion official paperwork related to students' academic study including major changes, transfer credit, petitions to amend degree requirements and petitions to graduate.
  • Orientation and Onboarding
  • Participate in and contribute to the content and delivery of new student orientation and onboarding.
  • Professional Development
  • Stay informed of research and effective practices in academic and student affairs to propose ideas to better serve students.
  • Association Membership
  • Participate as an active member of professional associations related to academic advising and career services.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education, Psychology, Sociology, Human Services, Communications or other related field; Master's Degree preferred in Higher education, Educational Leadership, Student Affairs, Academic Advising or related field

  • National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) certifications

  • Five to eight years of related work experience (three to five years of experience may be considered if the preferred education is met)

Successful completion of standard background checks including but not limited to: social security verification, education verification, national criminal background checks, motor vehicle checks, PATCH, FBI fingerprinting, Child Abuse Clearance and credit history based upon the requirements of the position
