Salary Range

$40,000.00 depending on qualifications

Essential Functions

The Academic Advising Center provides excellence in advising while building relationships with students and supporting them in achieving their academic goals. To that end, we are committed to creating a supportive and student friendly atmosphere; to encouraging students to set academic and career goals; to empowering students to reach their goals; and to providing individual academic support through quality advisement and confidentiality while maintaining and honoring the dignity and potential of each student.

The Academic Advisor is responsible for participating in the planning and delivery of academic advising by individual or group advising on academic, career-related issues, programs and curriculum. They should also help create and/or promote new initiatives that improve undergraduate success.

  • Provide academic advising to undergraduate students both individually and groups.

  • Provide students with information focused on meeting developmental academic needs, including transition to the college environment.

  • Determines nature of student's situation by responding to inquiries; interviewing students, auditing student records.

  • Provide timely information on degree requirements, core curriculum requirements, and university policies.

  • Maintain accurate data on students in secured electronic and paper files.

  • Monitors planned actions by periodic follow up; receiving, processing and maintaining required documentation; maintain databases; provide reports; and analyze information.

  • Participate in new student orientation programs, freshman year seminars/experience programs, preview days, and various academic and student support events.

  • Coordinates advising functions by serving as a liaison between students' faculty and academic department and other campus services.

  • Serve as a liaison and work collaboratively for school and academic departments by interpreting academic policies and procedures and curriculum issues.

  • Promotes good will with students and works in a professional cooperative manner with faculty and staff across campus.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • Strong Microsoft Office Skills including Microsoft Teams

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills; strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Dynamic presentation skills for individual and group audience

  • Proficiency in handling multiple priorities and pivoting based on changing priorities, meeting deadlines, and problem solving.

  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of PeopleSoft and EAB Navigate systems or any comparable advising technology

  • One year experience with college students or related experience.

  • Assure that all teacher education students, undergraduate and post-baccalaureate, follow state certification requirements as they progress through their program of study. Communicate regularly with faculty in arts and sciences departments offering secondary and all-grades certifications along with completion of a bachelor's degree to assure certification students are following their programs of study.

  • Maintain currency regarding University and UT System program requirements, academic requirements for educator preparation programs set by the Texas Education Agency and accreditors, and policies and guidelines from other regulatory bodies governing the scope and requirements for academic programs.

Schedule

Generally, the hours for this position are Monday through Thursday, 7:30 - 5:30 pm; Friday, 8:00 am - 12:00 pm with a one-hour lunch. The individual holding this position may need to be available early morning, evening, and on weekends to meet the needs of the department. Hours worked may differ with some departments.

Standard Working Conditions

1.Able to lift various materials up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis.

2.Able to bend, crouch, and reach continuously.

3.Physically able remain seated, frequently to continuously.

4.Able to remain standing up to 15% of the time.

5.Possesses dexterity abilities required to perform job duties including extensive keyboard work, operating office equipment, performing filing, and other job-related responsibilities that include extensive wrist and hand movement.
