JOB TITLE:

Academic Advising Professional

  • Advising-Career-Exploratory Studies Office

JOB PURPOSE:

Coordinate and administer academic advising functions for University of Wyoming students within the ACES office. The Advising-Career-Exploratory Studies (ACES) office is the general advising office at the University of Wyoming.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide academic advising to undeclared and special undergraduate students (high school guests, non-degree seeking students, national student exchange, etc.)

  • Assist students with major and career exploration

  • Help students think critically about their academic and career goals

  • Serve as the coordinator of the Exploratory Studies

  • Living Learning Community
  • Provide academic advising for probationary, conditionally admitted, suspended and academically reinstated students to help identify and overcome their academic difficulties

  • Meet with students experiencing career indecision

  • Market ACES services to prospective students and parents, including leading sessions for students and parents during campus visits

  • Some positions identify and contact via telephone and on-site visits prospective employers or students for job recruitment/resume referrals of University of Wyoming students for permanent or intern/cooperative education positions; compile recruitment program information from employers and students.

  • Some positions meet with students experiencing career indecision; administer and interpret career advising-related assessments; provide an interview process to assist students in improving skills; conduct follow-up sessions.

  • Responsible for review and approval of student forms, as directed; evaluate transcripts and perform degree checks, as directed.

  • Assist with the program activities of the ACES office

SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Keep up to date on University and College policies and regulations pertaining to degree requirements.

  • Assist with special projects, as directed.

  • Serve on committees, as directed.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY:

This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor's degree in Counselor Education, Counseling, or Psychology-related program, or a related field

Experience: 1 year work-related experience
