  • Location: Located in Tennessee, day to day work is remote with in-person work needed in TN anywhere from 14-28 days per year with a four-day optional workweek

General Description:

The Executive Director of ACT is responsible for overseeing and managing the organization’s operations, programs, and strategic direction in collaboration with the Board of Directors and the Director of Development & Operations.

ACT funds procedural costs for Tennesseans traveling to access abortion. We provide block grants to our partner clinics, who distribute the funds to patients. ACT is unapologetically pro-abortion. We believe in everyone's right to access the care they need, when and where they need it. We believe that our community is strong and together we can support the most vulnerable Tennesseans in their search for abortion care. We celebrate bodily autonomy, and the joy of helping each other access our rights.


Duties and Responsibilities:

Leadership Management

  • Provide strategic leadership to ACT by setting goals and implementing plans to achieve those goals.
  • Develop and convene cross functional teams to ensure successful, collaborative implementation of projects, events, and programs.
  • Develop objectives, assign responsibilities, create timelines, and follow up to ensure deliverables are achieved by the established deadlines.
  • Work to build infrastructure and new values-aligned programming and outreach strategy  
  • Foster a work culture that is rooted in the values of the ACT Fund.

Program Development and Implementation

  • Develop and oversee ACT’s educational programs in collaboration with the Education and Outreach Coordinator.
  • Ensure that all programs align with the mission of ACT and align with the needs of the community.

Fundraising and Financial Management

  • Develop and implement fundraising strategies to secure financial resources for the organization’s operations.
  • Oversee the development of an annual fundraising plan.
  • Create and manage the organization’s budget with the assistance of the Board of Directors. Ensure the organization operates within the approved budget and make recommendations for any changes.

Public Relations and Advocacy  

  • Represent the organization at in-person events, in the media, or with other stakeholders and advocate for reproductive justice and access to abortion care for all Tennesseans.
  • Build relationships with community partners, stakeholders, and policymakers to advance the organization’s mission.
  • Develop and implement communication strategies in collaboration with the Development and Operations Manager to raise awareness and support for ACT.

Administrative and Compliance Duties

  • Ensure that ACT operates in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and ethical standards.
  • Report to and work closely with the Board of Directors providing relevant updates in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Manage contractors, consultants, and professional supports when necessary.
  • Oversee hiring and onboarding for all paid staff roles.
  • Approve biweekly payroll.

A relocation stipend is available, and ACT would like the ED to start in the month of June of 2024, and live in the state by October 1, 2024.

Requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • Pro-Abortion
  • Knowledge of, and commitment to, the principles of Reproductive Justice 
  • Leadership experience in a nonprofit organization (management level or higher of at least 3 years)
  • Resident of Tennessee or willingness to relocate to Tennessee
  • Knowledge of fundraising
  • Experience with leading collaboratively 
  • Demonstrated record of excellent follow through and integrity to commitments
  • Proficiency with organizational and project management tasks, including planning, delegating, and facilitating
  • Budget management skills
  • Effective time management skills
  • Discretion and respect for information privacy
  • Working, current knowledge of computer applications: G Suite, MS Office, Zoom for internal communications and project management

Preferred Knowledge/Experience:

  • Familiar with organizing, especially in the South
  • Adjacent experience working or volunteering with a stigmatized cause in a conservative state
  • Experience with strategic planning
  • Flexibility and adaptability to learn on the job
  • Strong public speaker with ability to clearly convey vision to staff, volunteers, and donors
  • Managing volunteers in a mostly remote setting
