Job Summary:

The ABL Portfolio Manager will be responsible for the managing an existing Asset Based Lending (ABL) portfolio. The ABL Portfolio Manager will support Business Development in strengthening relationships with clients and new relationships. As part of Commercial, the ABL Portfolio Manager supports the overall risk management and manages all Account Managers. The ABL Portfolio Manager will be a self-starter with the ability to work independently on complex transactions with little oversight. The ABL Portfolio Manager will demonstrate strong credit, analytical, and written and verbal communication skills along with experience in financial modeling, portfolio management, and projection and sensitization analysis. The ABL Portfolio Manager will work closely with Business Development Managers and ABL Management in managing the overall credit approval process.

Reporting Relationship:

The ABL Portfolio Manager reports to the Director of ABL and will work closely with the Credit Officer and Business Developers in an effort to meet lending goals and objectives.

Job Duties:

Oversees the Account Managers and performs portfolio/account management responsibilities including:

  • Reviews financial and collateral information, including collateral examination and third party appraisal reports.

  • Maintains an active dialogue with the borrower regarding financial condition.

  • Promotes and monitors customer relationship and growth

  • Evaluates requests for waivers and amendments.

  • Assists Lenders to ensure customers are being serviced as needed

  • Attends bank/lender meetings as needed to assist in the loan approval process and delivering the Bank to the clients.

  • Attends industry sponsored networking events.

  • Solicits existing portfolio customers in an effort to increase and retain volume and cross sell Bank products and services.

  • Assist lenders in managing past due and maturing loans.

  • Actively participates in research, preparation and execution of customer calls

  • Review legal documents and seek additional approvals to ensure compliance, if necessary.

  • File maintenance and retention management partnered with the BDO to assure quality control, particularly in preparation for audits and loan review, including annual reviews and adequate reporting.

  • Follow up, verification and modification/correction of all internal reporting and system on boarding: proper P&L/cost center, application of fees to the note, set up for payments and interest, collection and application of any additional revenue.

  • Familiar with operations and approval docs to facilitate booking and supporting lending assistants in getting approvals for funding wires.

  • Projects may be required to work on miscellaneous projects and initiatives related to either the credit functions or across the company as needed.

  • Effective and timely communication with credit management, borrower, and agent banks as well as with internal partners such as Treasury Management, Corporate Banking, Operations, Accounting, Legal, etc. engaging partners as appropriate throughout the underwriting process.

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Understand complex deal structures and capable of preparing the framework of a loan approval document.

  • Ability to work with Agent, Client and Credit to complete modifications and simple amendment approval documents.

  • A bachelor's degree preferably in business management, accounting and/or finance.

  • At least 10 years' of comparable experience. Preference will be given to candidates who have both leveraged lending experience and middle-market bank experience.

  • Strong credit skills; understanding of bank's credit profile, credit policies, and risk management objectives.

  • Understanding of complex loan documentation; negotiation skills.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with external clients, senior account executives, agent banks, credit administration, and other bank personnel.

  • Ability to effectively work under tight timelines.

  • Proficient user of Microsoft Excel and Word.

  • Experience analyzing business financial statements and tax returns (individuals and business).

Business Development & Delivery * Collaborate with coverage team to generate ideas, identify client solutions, pursue sector marketing efforts, cover clients, and deliver timely solutions. * Actively manage client solution opportunities within sector portfolio. * Operate as key member of the deal team and lead preparation of lending proposals and pitches to prospective clients with efforts to maximize sector penetration and returns. * Deliver activities in instituting cross-selling initiatives to clients across all areas of the firm and transitioning them into significant sales. * Provide deal structuring expertise additional expertise as knowledge base and needs dictate. * Negotiate transactions with clients. * Maintain awareness of all firm products and services offered and facilitate means of receiving continuous updates. B. Industry Coverage * Develop and maintain specialty industry understanding of key market participants and underlying trends. * Represent the firm in industry gatherings to garner market intel as well as meet clients and prospects to support business development activities * Further support business development with an active social media strategy including writing blogs and sharing relevant content to a well developed list of industry contacts * Consult with Credit and other banking staff on covered industry trends to advise on credit exposures and strategies. C. Sales Support and Partnerships * Maintain key ongoing contact with lending clients. * Actively work with specialists as needed to support successful deals. D. Management of Team and Team Workflow * Lead team to success by capturing opportunities for ongoing mentoring, coaching, and career development of analysts and associates. E. Risk Management and Control * Actively manage portfolio to maximize return and credit quality. * Oversee preparation of concise, well reasoned credit correspondence. * Obtain credit concurrence and coordinate pricing approval as client advocate * Protect the Bank's assets and maintain quality of portfolio by adhering to lending processes, policies & procedures, legal and ethical requirements and regulations, audit requirements, and established risk guidelines. Knowledge and Skills A. Knowledge * An undergraduate degree. Focal areas of finance, economics, or accounting preferred. * CPA or MBA or equivalent experience in finance, accounting and business law. * 12-16 years of relevant experience in negotiating and structuring financial transactions. * Minimum of 12 years in financial services industry experience in a corporate lending environment developing business. * Formal credit training and prior lending authority. * This position requires Credit Qualification.
