Applied Research Associates (ARA), Inc. has a contingent opportunity for a full-time Staff Technical Writer in our Crystal City Office, located in Arlington, VA. Upon ARA's successful receipt of contract award, this individual will be assigned to manage a specialized task area. The successful applicant may have relatively recent experience on the HQ USAF Civil Engineer (A4C) staff. This position requires strong analytical skills and problem solving abilities to thrive in a cross-functional setting.

Required Skills:

  • Have excellent communication skills with appropriate internal and external contacts

  • Create forward-thinking, conceptual solutions for clients in a professional manner

  • Take initiative and build approaches to meeting objectives with only minimal direction

  • Work effectively under deadlines and manage multiple projects with evolving requirements

  • Self-manage schedules and tasks

Basic Qualifications:

  • Candidate must possess an active Department of Defense Secret Clearance required

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • 2-4 years of relevant experience

  • Applicant must be a U.S. citizen

  • Innovative and fresh thinking with a 'can do' attitude

  • Ability to manage and prioritize numerous assignments

  • Organized individual, with strong prioritization and time management skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills

  • Ability to function in a team-oriented environment and interact professionally with employees and management at all levels

Desired Qualifications:

  • Recent Air Staff Civil Engineer (A4C) experience

Senior Technical Writer Vaxcom is seeking an experienced Technical Writer to compose clear and coherent technical information, discuss commercial and industrial products and services, write instruction manuals for users and possess complete understanding of a company's products and applications. The Technical Editor/Writer edits, writes, and/or rewrites technical articles, publications, presentations, and other materials to communicate clearly and effectively research findings, technical developments, and other news and information to a wide range of external audiences. Interprets and administers documentation/ communication policies and procedures. Advises writers and researchers in matters of style, syntax, and usage to improve the general quality and effectiveness of communications. Exercises quality control over documents intended for external distribution. May participate in copy clearance process. Required skills include: * Prepare, review, edit and maintain program technical documents, including software and system engineering documents, CONOPS, test reports, user documentation, implementation documentation, etc. * Create, review, edit and maintain technical drawings for program documentation. * Experience in the following is required: MS Word, PowerPoint or similar. * Experience in a drawing tool, e.g., Visio. * Coordinate / interview team members to solicit program information. * Support preparation, review, edit and maintenance program training materials. * Strong communication skills with ability to collaborate with multiple Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) Desired skills include: * Master's degree in a related discipline may substitute for two (2) years of experience. Two (2) or more years of technical writing experience required. * Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline is required. Four (4) years of technical writing experience may be substituted for a degree. * Researches highly technical subject matter, organizes information from multiples sources, and expresses technical information in written form that is comprehensible to a wide audience of readers. Additional Requirements: * Experience managing a team of technical writers desired.
