Job DescriptionGot a knack for keeping cars and trucks on the road? Then join the Army National Guard as a Light-Wheel Vehicle Mechanic and help keep freedom moving forward.

As a Light-Wheel Vehicle Mechanic, you will have the opportunity to supervise and perform unit maintenance and recovery operations on gasoline - and diesel - fueled light-wheeled vehicles. In short, if it's on wheels, you'll work on it. And after your paid training, you'll be qualified to maintain and repair any number of vehicle systems and components, preparing you to step right into a civilian vehicle maintenance career.

Job training requires 10 weeks of Basic Training, where you'll learn basic Soldiering skills, and 10 weeks of Advanced Individual Training (AIT). Part of this time is spent in the classroom and part in the field.

Requires military enlistment. Applicants must meet minimum qualifications. Actual MOS assignment may depend on MOS availability. Benefits subject to change.

Applicant must have good mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting abilities; be able to move/handle 50 pounds without mechanical assistance, climb stairs and ladders, work outdoors, able to wear proper PPE, meet all air and water discharge limits, and work shifts including weekends. Applicant must have, or able to obtain, at minimum a current Maine High Pressure Steam or Stationary Steam Engineer license. The State of Maine Board of Boilers does have a reciprocity program if you are applying out of state depending on qualifications. Must be able to read and understand NPDES and Air Permits, and perform daily required testing to maintain compliance with permits. Must be a team player with good communication skills and strong background in math, chemistry, and Microsoft – Word, Excel, and Outlook. Must be a high school graduate / GED and have three plus years' experience in a manufacturing setting. Additionally, candidate should be able to operate manual machinery such as fork lifts, valves, fire extinguishers, snow blowers, process equipment, etc. as well as working knowledge of hand and power tools.
