Leidos's Military & Veterans Health Solutions Group has a contingent opening for a Research Scientist III for the Oasis contract to support the Naval Medical Research Unit in San Antonio, TX. This position is contingent upon contract award.

  • Provides expertise in development and conduction of protocol-driven scientific research addressing various aspect of military medicine, including, but not limited to: hemorrhage and resuscitation, immunomodulation, biomedical systems, bioassay development, craniofacial, infectious diseases and directed energy bioeffects.

  • Provides supervision and guidance to junior scientist contract personnel in writing protocol-driven research proposals, animal use protocols, human use protocols, technical reports, final reports, and peer-reviewed manuscripts.

  • Provides guidance to junior scientist contract personnel on the evaluation of data sets (provided by the government and collected by the contractor); development of presentation materials, writing of research Standard Operating Procedures, and presenting findings at technical and professional meetings.

  • Provides supervision for contract personnel during the preparation of experimental subjects and aid in the training and the development of experimental subjects for experimental procedures in accordance with approved animal or human use protocols.

  • Provides support in the development and establishment of in vivo and in vitro model systems, data acquisition, and data analysis.

  • Oversees personnel associated with the projects and manage data.

  • Performs surgical procedures on animal models for both survival and non-survival.

Qualifications:

  • Education requirements are a PhD in related field plus seven years' experience.

US Citizenship required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a government security clearance

VIEW JOBS 11/1/2018 12:00:00 AM 2019-01-30T00:00 Research Scientist III San Antonio, TX Parsons is seeking a Research Scientist III to provide support to NAMRU-SA and its collaborating institutions in the conduct of the following research areas: expeditionary and trauma medicine, cellular and immune based adjuncts for casualty care, directed energy and bioeffects, systems engineering and evaluation, epidemiology and biostatistics, environmental surveillance and biomaterials, and maxillofacial injury and disease in consonance with the mission of the Combat Casualty Care and Operational Medicine and Craniofacial Health and Restorative Medicine directorates at the NAMRU-SA. The Research Scientist III will lead Directed Energy bioeffect research which consists of laser and radiofrequency safety and medical outcomes. The selected candidate will be responsible for planning, conducting, and promoting basic and applied research activities determining direct and collateral hazards from developing directed energy systems in military applications. Responsibilities * Serves as team leader of a multidisciplinary government and contractor team and mentors scientists, engineers and technicians. * Develops technical and management information, reports and briefings on progress, evaluation, analysis and recommendations of applications of high-energy laser systems, measurements and theory. * Expands the technical data base and analytical technologies for assessing the operational and occupational risks from a wide range of systems, including lasers at any visible wavelength, all radiofrequency wavelengths, and their countermeasures. * Develops scientific experimental designs addressing measurements of dynamic reflectivity, absorption and scattering properties. * Serves as key communication link/technical liaison with other DOD agencies with regard to directed energy safety bioeffects. * Translates DOD mission deficiencies/requirements into science and technology investment strategies and programs. Education/Experience * Doctoraldegree in biophysics or related field required. * Indepth knowledge of lasers and radiofrequency systems including recent advancesin technology. * Experiencewith specialized laser safety analysis techniques for high-energy laser systemsand their deployment in a military setting. * Knowledge of directed energy systems andmethods employed to exploit electromagnetic radiation for warfighterapplications so as to define problems and design experiments that willdetermine hazards associated with operational use of electromagnetic systems,including laser systems. * Demonstratedability and skill to prepare all aspects of professionally accepted scientificreports including methods, data interpretation, presentation, and significanceof findings in relation to other findings by peers, and present effective oralpresentations. * Experiencein the oversight and management of 6.1, 6.2, and 6.3 federal research programs,including the preparation, planning, execution and reporting of each type ofresearch according to DoD requirements. * Knowledgeof and experience in contractual program management procedures andrequirements. * Knowledgeof National Laser Safety Standards (ANSI Z136) and the committees that createthese standards. * Applicantsselected for employment will be subject to a federal background investigationand must meet additional eligibility requirements for access to classifiedinformation or materials.
