Job DescriptionNewspapers, Web sites, broadcast television, and radio programs are an important source of general information about people and events in the Army National Guard. Journalists are involved in writing, producing, and presenting print, digital, and broadcast news, entertainment, and music programming.

In the Army National Guard, these duties are generally performed by the Public Affairs Specialist. The Public Affairs Specialist participates in and assists with the supervision and administration of public affairs programs through news releases, newspaper articles, Web-based material, and photographs for use in military and civilian news media. Public Affairs Specialists learn how to research, prepare, and distribute news releases, gather information for news programs and publications, develop ideas for news articles, conduct interviews, and write news releases, feature articles, and editorials.

Plus, you'll be building a better future. The skills you learn as a Public Affairs Specialist will help prepare you for a future with newspapers, magazines, wire services, and radio and television stations. You'll be qualified to pursue a career as a journalist, newscaster, disc jockey, writer, director, producer, editor, or correspondent.

Instead of paying to learn these skills, get paid to train. In the Army National Guard, you will learn these valuable job skills while earning a regular paycheck and qualifying for tuition assistance.

Job training for Public Affairs Specialists consists of 10 weeks of Basic Training, where you'll learn basic Soldiering skills, and up to 12 weeks of Advanced Individual Training. Training consists of both classroom and field work.

Requires military enlistment. Applicants must meet minimum qualifications. Actual MOS assignment may depend on MOS availability. Benefits subject to change.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities: * Apply evidence-based (or innovative, as needed) scientific principles to address complex regulatory requirements for product submissions. * Contribute to the existing departmental scientific and methodological expertise by identifying and assessing emerging theories and methodologies, and applying gained expertise to meet research objectives that align with strategic goals. * Assist in the development of tactical plans that support research strategies and advocacy efforts, including collaborating with internal/external stakeholders across a broad set of disciplines. * Develop and execute regulatory research efforts that support submissions for current and future products. Job Requirements: Education: * Advanced graduate degree in public health, regulatory affairs, behavioral sciences, or related field required. Experience: * Minimum 6 years of relevant regulatory experience, or 10 years of progressive relative experience (refer above to "Education" for relevant fields). Required Skills: * Experience with FDA regulatory environment/regulatory submissions, and broad understanding of the tobacco category; * Strong ability to design and implement primary research that aligns with regulatory strategies; * Strong ability to apply critical thinking and analytical skills to both known and new information and data; * Demonstrated ability to manage and execute multiple projects, as well as to complete multiple projects efficiently and on schedule; * Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team; * Ability to critically assess the scientific literature and provide written summaries; and, * Excellent verbal and written communication, including technical writing. Preferred Skills: * Relevant tobacco industry experience; and, * Expertise in both quantitative and qualitative study design and analytic methods.
