Teaching Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement lesson plans aligned to the California State standards as well as the Diocese of San Diego Religion Standards
- Establish a positive classroom culture and maintain strong classroom management to maximize instructional time
- Differentiate classroom instruction to meet the needs of all learners
- Regularly collect and analyze data to inform and adjust instruction
- Skillfully use technology to accomplish learning goals and increase student engagement including using Google Classroom and IXL Learning Math/ELA/Spanish (Kindergarten- 8th), and Wonders ELA Program (Kindergarten- 5th)
- Evaluate students' academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, keep appropriate attendance records, prepare progress reports and report cards (grades), update cum file at the end of the academic year: Minimum 8 grades per subject by midpoint by progress reports, Minimum of 16 grades per subject by end of the quarter
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians on student progress
- Collaborate with colleagues to improve instructional practices throughout the school and share best practices
- Actively participate in ongoing professional development
- Please make sure you pray with your class at the start of the day, transitions, lunch and end of the day.
- Begin every morning with the Pledge of Allegiance
- Upload Lesson Plans weekly to the Nazareth School WCEA/WASC folder
- Lesson Plans Must include CA Curriculum Standard, School Wide Learning Expectations (SEL's) and Lesson Objectives
- Post and clearly state learning objective per lesson to students daily
- Create and send a weekly newsletter including upcoming learning and events
- Plan class Mass per school Mass schedule, prepare students and create Mass Planning Sheet
- Deliver Mass Planning Sheet to the parish office 3 days before Mass date.
- Include school Core Value of the Month at the top of the Mass Planning Sheet
- Use Daily Mass for the readings unless instructed otherwise by Principal or Administrative Assistant
- Students need to read from the Lectionary unless otherwise instructed by Principal or Administrative Assistant
- Upload Mass Planning Sheets to the Nazareth School WCEA/WASC folder
- Nominate weekly Catch of the Week based on Core Values of the Sisters of Nazareth and the School Wide Learning Expectations (SLE) and submit to Hospitality Coordinator for weekly assembly
- Communicates any concerns regarding environment, injuries and particularly safety issues to Principal and/or office staff via the
- Prepare and distribute student summer learning packets for Math and Reading

- Maintain a neat and orderly classroom
- Demonstrate a respectful demeanor with staff, students, and parents
- Observe utmost confidentiality regarding parent, student, staff information/conversations
Religious Qualifications:
- Active, practicing Roman Catholic (preferred)
- Basic Catechetical Certification (preferred)
- Respects and understands a Catholic school philosophy
Professional Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's Degree
- Successful experience in student teaching or classroom teaching
- A Preliminary Teaching Credential working toward a Clear Credential
- Positive references and recommendations
- A Clear criminal background check (a clear Livescan for the Diocese of San Diego is a condition of employment)
- A basic understanding and acceptance of Catholic School philosophy, goals and objectives
- Necessary background and training in elementary educational methods and subject areas
- Understanding of child development and skills necessary to relate to the students
- Appropriate control and discipline techniques, which will enhance the learning environment
- Active, practicing, Roman Catholic with extensive knowledge and adherence to Church teaching and life.
Additional Requirements Specific to Nazareth School San Diego for the 2024-2025 School Year:
All school employees are subject to the expectations and policies defined in the Nazareth School Employee Handbook on campus and at all school events.
- Be on campus from 7:30am-3:30pm Monday through Friday unless otherwise specified by the Administrator.

- NCEA Religious Convocation Tuesday, August 6, 2024 (8am-12pm)
- Back-to-School Night- Thursday, August 22, 2024 from (6-8pm)
- Parent-Teacher Conferences- October 29 & 30 (12pm-5:30pm)
- PTG General Meetings (6-8pm)
- Two PTG Board Meetings (6-8pm)
- Halloween Carnival, October 25, 2024 (one hour)
- Christmas Program- December 18, 2024 (6-8pm)
- Open House (if scheduled in the 2024-25 school year)
- First Holy Communion- Saturday, April 2025 (9-10am) - Preferred
- "Nazareth Night" PTG Auction Fundraiser- TBD, (6-9pm)
- Eighth Grade Graduation- June 6, 2025 (2-3:30pm)
- Curriculum Cluster Meetings- Times to be determined by Administrator/Principal
- Weekly In-Service Activities / Faculty Meetings, Tuesdays, 3-4:30pm, and as scheduled by the Administrator/Principal
- Professional Development Days- October 11, January 17, and March 7 (8:30am-2:30pm)
- Professional Learning Community Work Days - first Friday of each month (12:45pm-3:30pm)
- Recess Supervision (if needed) and lunch supervision minimum of 1x a week, and drop-off supervision, dismissal supervision, etc. as specified by the Duty Roster
Benefits: Nazareth School Policy
Full time (30 hours or more) employees:
- One sick leave day for each month worked up to ten days
- Bereavement: Up to five days on the death of certain family members
- No compensation for Jury Duty absences
- Participation in the diocesan pension plan (20 hours per week)
- Eligibility for Nazareth School medical benefits (30 hours per week)
- The school may negotiate benefit plans with providers during the course of the year. It is anticipated that rates will be re-negotiated in January of each year. Employees will be subject to new rates, deductions, co-pays, etc. at that time.
Physical Requirements:
To successfully meet the needs of the students in his/her care, the teacher must:
- Spend the majority of the day standing in the classroom. While standing the teacher will frequently hold objects they are working with or demonstrating
- Sit on an occasional basis when developing lesson plans, grading, etc.
- Walk through the classroom and be able to maneuver in tight spaces between desks. Walk on both even and uneven surfaces
- Deal with students while kneeling or squatting, stooping, or bending
- Reach at, below, or above shoulder height with the dominant upper extremity; may require trunk or neck rotation to look back at the class
- Assist in moving children's desks and chairs to change the layout of the classroom to influence the learning situation. It is occasionally necessary to lift and carry boxes weighing up to 25 pounds from the office to classrooms
While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to be inside the classroom. The employee is required to be mobile to, from, and within the classroom and preschool environment, as well as maneuver throughout the school facility to attend meetings, trainings, and other work-related events. The employee may be required to conduct trips to, from, and within various city and county-wide locations to attend trainings or workshops.
